A new season
So I've played many versions of OOTP and I love the game more and more each year. But I sometimes feel I don't get the most out of the game. I feel like maybe I'm giving up to early cause I begin to manage and be the full time GM and lose track of everything cause it's so much to remember.
I am a huge O's fan and have a pretty good idea of their system and the players throughout the organization. So I have a few questions about how you or people you know play the game. Just for an idea im playing starting this season 2015 and going on from there... 1. How do you keep track of all your prospects and players? Index cards, have a book you write things down in or just wing it? 2. Do you manage games or allow the management handle them type things such as line ups and rotation and things like that? 3. If you only focus on a few of your top prospects which ones do you keep an eye on? Your top 5, top 10? 4. Any advice is welcome... I plan to start a fresh start and start my league as the O's and really see what I can do this weekend. 5. Basically I'm just looking for ways to be effective and not get overwhelmed by the game and really just would have a good idea how to handle the many of players in the organization. Thanks! |

Also a huge O's fan, and just started a season as the O's GM.
1. I mainly focus on this aspect of the game, both in real life and in OOTP. My prospects are like my little babies that I can't wait to see grow up. If I have a lot, I shortlist them so I can easily find them in my system. 2. I let the manager handle it. 3. Top ones at each position, plus a few lower level prospects I've shortlisted (often because of one great tool, i.e. top of the charts power.) 4. It also helps if you do most of the acquisitions, including your full draft and signing your own international amateurs. It's easier to remember that way. I have the same issue I try and run prospects through the system I need to work on patience. Harvey and Bundy mostly. In other versions once I drafted guys I was rushing them too so I'm gonna work on that part of my game as well. |

Especially this version where you can create multiple custom shortlists there's no reason not to use that feature to track your players - have your guys almost ready for the show in one list to track their stats, hot prospects and rookie league guys in another. Bookmark them so your lists of guys to check is always one function key away.
