Silly Salary Requests
I have a borderline-very good player who keeps asking for an extension of twice what the average salary for a superstar player is. He won't come off of time or money. He's a starter, so it's not like he can be unhappy with his role, especially since his morale is "great." I'm really at a loss where the irrational $ figure is coming from.

one time I had a player who was part time player on my team ask for $22 million …. I pretty much said BYE without a 2nd thought. Admittedly he became a starter on another team who picked him up for $19 million for 5 years. Actually had 5 pretty good NOT great but solid years then injury (final year of contract) occurred and he fell off the map. GRRR why didn't he play like that for me LOL.

I just view those demands as being made by a player who has no intention of staying on your team and wants to test the free agent market instead. They make a ridiculous demand they know you won't meet so they can walk come the end of the year.

irl i think most players wont sign extension but rather go to free agency.
in ootp most players are open to sign an extension. i think its good that not all players give in to cheap extensions or the FA market would be void of any talent in ootp (especially true in online leagues)

some players think they are worth more than they are. look up the debacle of Stephen Drew.
the guy hadn't played a full season in 2 years and showed considerable drop off in results. he wanted way too much money so teams let him rot in FA until the june deadline for compensation passed. (along with compensation pick cost included -- all relative) slightly different situation, but same causality. think it started as the same situation, then it progressed, if i recall. |

Yeah, his loyalty is low. His greed is medium. I hope the other team that signed him realizes he's a liability defensively, although he's a stud at the plate. I just hope the compensation pick we get for him ends up being worthwhile.
