Inexplicable Top Prospect
Defying logic, one of my low minor leaguers is the top rated prospect (at 22), despite being kind of terrible. I'm using the 20-80 rating system and 1-100 abilities. His Stuff is 46/46, his Control 7/7 and he only has three pitches (Fastball 60/60, Curve 60/60, and Changeup 28/28). His overall and potential ratings are 20/20. I get that there are sometimes scouting inaccuracies, I just don't understand how anyone would rate him the top prospect. I sometimes check the OSA ratings on a player to see if maybe my scout has things wrong; they agree he's terrible.
It makes me wonder where the prospect ratings come from. Most of the time, it's clear to draw a line from potential to ranking, but I'm at a loss on this one. |

I noticed that in this years version as well. I'm not sure what causes it.

Someone reported this in the bug threads and Matt said they are working on this.

Yeah, there's a special class of player who ended up being "so bad that they're good" (ie. some math numbers in the system were off and we ended up basically overflowing some variables).

Sounds like some of my favorite cult classic movies. (Repo Man comes to mind.)

The prospect rankings are based on the OOTP scouting. It’s always good to keep an eye on those evaluations for reference. Your team’s scout will have his own evaluations based on his style (favor tools/favor ability). You are more likely to get a dramatically different evaluation from your scout if they heavily favor ability or heavily favor tools. You’ll also notice some big deviations if you slash your scouting budget. Your scout can sometimes be different and be right and sometimes be wrong. It’s part of the fun, I guess.
