What would you do with Scotty Smith?
So, I have an interesting conundrum with this kid. I'm coaching a rookie league team. No GM capability, so I can't cut him or move him.
Has played a bit of corner outfield and at first. He lumbers around the outfield, but he's surehanded in the OF, and Christ what an arm! Really not quite sure what to do with him. Playing him at first seems like a waste of that arm, and his IF error rating of 22 sucks. But he has no range in the outfield. Might try him at third, but he's not especially surehanded, so I'm not sure that will work at the hot corner. If you didn't have other players factoring in, what would you do with him? Just curious!

I had a company XO named Scott Smith who went by Scotty while in Iraq 10 years ago.
I say take him out to pasture and shoot him. Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk

while i might him play in the minors in RF, once i call him up he would sit at 1B. i dislike a guy with such tiny range in the outfield

Screw it. Make him a left-handed catcher. What do you have to lose?

Should definitely be the ball boy. He's got great hands and range is not needed.
(oh wait a minute - his infield hands are not so good) (never mind) Last edited by Cobby; 07-12-2018 at 12:20 PM. |

I say right field because he will do less damage in the outfield, and at least his arm is an asset in RF. He would be involved in too many plays at 1B.

Am I missing something? Why are there no offensive ratings shown?

No idea what you should do with him but I am impressed that someone as glacially slow as he is would be that talented a base-stealer and baserunner.
It makes me wonder about his intelligence. Because it seems like a player would have to be awfully smart and wily to make the most of that significant a lack of speed. |

I know right? I will check his Int when I get home. I do wonder why the game still comes up with ratings like that. Markus is usually pretty good about that stuff. (I still don’t get how someone can have a great outfield arm but a terrible infield one.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyway, that is how I would explain it away in my head so that it wouldn't bother me too much. |

There's a lot more that goes into throwing than simple arm strength, and the mechanics are different between the outfield and infield. So some variation between the two is realistic, and regardless of the variation, this guy has an elite arm both in the infield and the outfield.

Well, I think right field it is. My outfield is full of lefties, and he bats right, so that’s a good thing as well. Unfortunately, I have 35 players on my roster, so he’s going to have to show something to earn at bats!
