I'd just like to again point out, the Elimination League I run (link in sig) is similar to the Death League idea. Only difference is you have the option of protecting your players or eliminating the opposing team's when you win a series.
We have a couple of open teams if anyone is interested in joining... Gastric - did you get around to modifying the original injury file?

I still haven't gotten around to doing that yet. The bad voodoo from playing around with the file is still wreaking havoc on my usual fictional league, knocking players onto the disabled list.

I'm seriously considering the Aztec League thing. I'll have to set some death-eligibility requirements, though. I think guys over 30 who have a bad month should be toast, but eventually nobody will be over 30, and then who do you sacrifice?

Virgin ballplayers? D00d, I'm trying to retain some kind of realism here - baseball-playing Azecs I can see, but that's just crazy talk.

I think you're right about the injury system, GR.
I edited the original injury.txt so that every injury was career ending and set injusry frequncy to very high. Three months into a season, and no injuries at all. Then I changed just the "flu" injury so that it could be for any length of time, thinking that if injuries do work the way you think, then the flu should become epidemic. Sure enough.... Wednesday 8/14/2004 : BOS: Christian Parra was injured being hit by a pitch. Diagnosis: Flu. He will be OK in about 4 days. ARI: Steven Smith was injured while pitching. Diagnosis: Flu. He is out for about one week. ARI: Jeff Dupree was injured while running the bases. Diagnosis: Flu. He will be OK in about 4 weeks. PHI: Ben Sharpless was injured while making a catch. Diagnosis: Flu. He is out for about one week. CHN: Jeremy Hanger was injured being hit by a pitch. Diagnosis: Flu. He is out for about 6 days. So there you have it. If you aren't right on about the injuries, then you're pretty close. Now I'm going to figure out how someone can get the flu by being hit by a pitch. |

The Spanish flu pandemic killed somewhere up to 50 million people in 1918-1919, so it would suffice to be the only injury in you file.

The Spanish "Flu" pitch is not to be confused with the Spanish Fly pitch, which resulted in a record number of births shortly after WWII.

What about players dying during lunch? I'd like to see a setting where players die during meals.

Perhaps this should be merged with the lunch thread.

How about a pitcher that switch the ball for a grenade : "The 3-2 pitch. Fly ball to the right field, Guerrero under the ball and he makes the... oh my god! Guerrero just exploded!"
And after a strikeout, the catcher pitches the ball to the third baseman but accidentally struck the batter in the face with the ball, killing him instantly How about this one : "Pop up to second base. The second baseman looks like he's losing the ball in the sun...... Oh god! The ball hit his face real hard. He's on the ground, not moving... oh! He's having spasms! The runner reaches third base, it's aaaaaan infield triple." And this one : "The 3-2 pitch. Oh no!! The batter hits the head of the catcher when swinging. The referee calls it a catcher interference and sends the runner to first base. The catcher is definitely not moving and the bat is stuck in his head, wide-open." |

There should be a whole range of 'blunt force traumas' , like 'blunt force trauma - club', 'blunt force trauma - piano' etc. etc.

Yeah, you can't ever have too much blunt force trauma.
Cracking good stuff. |

Glad someone pointed this thread out to me. GR, why didn't you mention it?
I'll be messing with the injury.txt file as well this weekend. We'll see if I can come up with some kind of work-around. e.g. Designate an injury type for manual deletion/removal/career ending editing. Though that will probably be too much overhead for a commish. I'll give it my best shot though. Oh, fyi, this is why I'm here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...threadid=58235

What about a player dying of 3rd degree burns after a teammate gives him a hotfoot?
