Random Draft Historical League

Two questions:

1. I still can't figure out how to have a random draft league with Negro League players in the draft pool.

2. I also can't figure out how to manually draft just a single player in the draft pool screen.

Jeff1787,

Since Negro League players aren't technically major leaguers, they will not appear in your historical random debut leagues. You will have to manually add them by using the "Import Historical Players" on the Free Agent screen. You will have to prepare a CSV file that has three columns: the players' Baseball Reference minorsID, the year, and the team they would be assigned to. So, let's say you want Bullet Rogan to be in your league. You will need to create a CSV with these three columns: rogan-001bul (his historical minorsID),1920 (or whatever year you want him to appear; 1920 is the first year Baseball Reference has stats for him), and a teamID or "-" for no team.

Once you create your CSV file, you want to first make sure you are in Commissioner mode. Then go to the Free Agent screen, select "Import Historical Player(s)". Click Historical Database. Then click the "Click here to select file." button and browse to your CSV file. You also want to make sure you check "Include player(s) in minor league database" and if you want the players to be amateur-draft eligible, check "Import player(s) into draft pool".

I am not sure if anyone has ever created a database of negro League players, but it would be nice to have. Baseball Reference has listings for Negro Leagues in 1886 and 1887, but only 1887 has player names. Then nothing until 1920. I've tried importing players from 1887; most did not work in OOTP but at least one did .. sorry I don't remember who.

Please note that for players like Larry Doby, Monte Irvin, and of course Satchel Paige who all played in both the Negro leagues and major leagues, they will import, but only at the age they joined the majors.

Thanks, I am starting a random league and finally discovered they can't be manually imported from the Draft List screen.

Too bad they don't show up automatically!!

I am putting Buck Leonard and Satchel Paige in the inaugural draft. If Paige shows up later I will just delete him!
