In a preview of what might happen in real life tonight @ 175, Mikkel Kessler had an easy night defending his WBA SMW belt for the 9th time with a 9th round TKO of Allan Green.

Mikkel dropped Green 3 times over the 9 rounds to move to 14-1-2, Green drops to 13-2. Mikkel was up 79-71 on all 3 cards & landed 302 punches to 107 for Green. Mikkel also had the edge accuracy wise as well, 50% to 35% for Green.

Yaundale Evans went to Japan to take the WBO JLW belt from Keita Manabe via an 11th round TKO. Evans dropped Keita 3 times over the 11 round fight & was ahead on all 3 cards by 6 to 7 points.

Keita shocked Adrien Broner earlier this year via a 5th round KO to take the belt back to Japan.

Now Evans is bringing it back to American soil once again.

New IBO JMW champ!

Travis Simms finally got his rematch & revenge over IBO champ, Fernando Vargas via a 15UD - all 3 judges had it 144-140 for Simms.

Simms had lost his WBO belt to Vargas a few years ago when a cut in the 8th round gave Vargas the belt - he later lost that title to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. via UD.

A right hook in the 5th round dropped Vargas for a count of 9. In the 6th, Simms rushed into a Vargas right cross that dropped Simms for a 1 count @ the end of the round. Vargas tried to make a comeback in the late rounds but Simms had too much of a lead & held on to take the belt. Simms outpunched Vargas 320 to 261. Simms moves to 14-2 (11 KO's) - his other loss by UD to WBC champ Reda Zam Zam late last year. Vargas falls to 32-4-1.

6th world title!

Manny Pacquiao won his 6th belt @ a different weight class by taking the WBO JMW belt from Cory Spinks. Manny outpunched Spinks 330 to 307 & had the edge in the connect rate as well: 39% to 24% for Spinks.

It was a 15UD for Manny: 2 judges had it 147-139 & the 3rd 148-138. Cory had his moments but Manny landed the much harder shots.

Roach wasn't sure this was a good fight for Manny due to Cory's style & his ability to win close decisions against top level guys @ 154 - he beat Oscar & Dzindzurik in recent years to win JMW titles.

But Manny proved there was no need to worry - despite cuts over both eyes & also under his left being his main concern as the fight progressed. Cory's left eye was also swelling.

With the win, Manny now has won world titles @ FW, JLW, LW, JWW, WW & JMW.

Shocker!

Julio Cesar Chavez has gone 4-0 (4 KO's) @ 160 since his ill fated attempt @ the IBF JMW belt last summer - Chavez lost via a 2nd round TKO to Anthony Small when Chavez hurt his hand & quit.

Chavez challenged WBC MW champ - Renan St. Juste.

Chavez was cruising along to win a UD - he'd dropped Renan twice over the 1st 14 rounds until the 15th when Renan just kept punching, landed 31 shots to 2 for Chavez & stopped him @ 2:56 of the 15th round! Chavez was up 413-320 in punches landed & ahead on all 3 cards: 135-129, 136-128 & 137-127.

This was the greatest comeback in the biggest fight I ever saw!

Not sure what it is about Canadian MW's & upsets but Sebastian Demers once KO'd the prime Trinidad in 2 rounds in my uni a few years back.

(I used the 7 rated Chavez vs. the 3 rated Renan - had the 6 for Chavez & just noticed the updated 7 & that still wasn't enough to take the belt from Renan) Just 4 seconds away from a new champ!

I forgot to include Tim Bradley's 6th defense of his WBO JWW belt last week.

Tim moved to 9-0 (3 KO's) with a 15SD over Juan Urango, who drops to 13-2.

Tim outpunched Juan 373 (40%) to 308 (17%) & won the decision 144-141, 145-140 & 142-143.

Alejandro Berrio made an impressive 6th title defense of his IBO SMW belt with an 8th round, 1 punch uppercut KO Jesus Ernie Gonzalez.

Jesus was 13-0, all KO's @ 160 & had just taken the IBO MW belt from Daniel Jacobs with a dominating 6th round KO.

Early in the fight, it appeared JEG's combo of speed & youth would be too much for Berrio but a JEG left cross miss & a counter Berrio upper put JEG on the deck. JEG beat the count but it was Berrio's fight from that point on.

In the 8th, a combo put JEG on the deck again for a quick 2 count flash KD. A Berrio upper @ 2:26 of the 8th ended matters & JEG's dream of a 2nd belt @ another weight.

It was a close fight @ the time of the KO, 2 judges had Berrio up 67-64, 66-65 & the 3rd had it even @ 66. JEG was leading 167-161 in punches landed.

Berrio now moves to 15-1 (all KO's) - his lone loss to Gutneckt by decision a few years ago.

Desert Storm - French version

Ismael El Massoudi came to Japan & just ripped the WBA WW title away from defending champ Akinori Watanabe with an 11th round TKO. The champ hit the deck 4 times & was out punched 316 to 163.

Akinori was making the 2nd defense of his belt since his brutal 10th round TKO beating of Jackson Osei Bonsu - JOB's ribs were broken in that fight from a hard left cross & he was also dropped twice. Akinori's 1st title defense was a 3rd round TKO blowout of Ali Nuumbembe.

Marco Huck moved up to HW for a shot @ the WBO belt vs. the 11-0 (all KO's) Audley Harrison & took the title with a 15MD. (145-141, 142-142, 143-142).

Huck was unable to get a CW title shot so he moved up 1 weight class to take on the unbeaten Brit. In a tight fight, Huck outlanded Audley 293-288 & dropped the champ once over 15 rounds which ended up being the determining factor in the bout.

lol, yep - I'd built up his record & he won his title shot & defenses. I'll have to check who those were against.

Audley won the belt from Micheal Moorer with a 12th round TKO & stopped Martin Rogan (4th round TKO) & Tomasz Adamek (11th round TKO) for 2 of his 4 best title defenses.

Berrio's reign of terror continues!

Alejandro Berrio made the 7th defense of his IBO SMW belt with a 4th round KO of Scott Sigmon.

Since knocking out Victor Oganov in 6 to win the belt, Berrio has made the following defenses:

Shannon Taylor - 7 TKO
Don George - 11 TKO
Mark Kaylor - 7 TKO
Tony Quigley - 1 KO
Aaron Jaco - 2 KO
Jesus Ernie Gonzales - 8 KO
Scott Sigmon - 4 KO

Berrio's been knocked down twice in the fights listed above & knocked down/out the list above 24 times.

New WBO MW champ!

Andy Lee finally getting his prized title shot made the most of it & thrilled the fans @ the National Stadium in Dublin, Ireland with a 1 punch uppercut KO of Harry Simon.

Simon won the vacant WBO belt with a 13th round TKO in a brutal fight vs. Mexican hard man, Marco Antonio Rubio in May.

Lee, 12 years the junior of the champ, made Simon look old by landing 50% of his punches to only 17% for Simon. With the win, Lee improves to 17-0-1 & Simon falls to 16-2 @ 160. His other loss @ MW was last year when he lost his IBF MW belt to Sebastian Sylvester by 15UD.

The loss also ruined Simon's plans to fight Miguel Cotto in Dec for Cotto's WBA JMW belt.

Edit: I just realized fighting Marco Antonio Rubio in my Uni is tough, even if you win. Simon beat Rubio as you see above & then lost vs. Lee. Danny Jacobs was able to retain his IBO belt vs. Rubio in Feb by a DQ (even though Rubio was winning) & then Jacobs lost his belt in his next fight vs. Jesus Gonzalez via a 6th round beatdown KO.

Fighting/beating Rubio takes something out of fighters.

Herol Graham made the 3rd defense of his WBA MW strap with a 15UD over Daniel Geale (145-140, 147-137, 146-138).

Herol landed a whopping 68% of his punches in a 468 to 215 tally in favor of the Brit. With the loss, Geale drops to 8-1, 7 KO's.

Herol is one of 3 UK fighters holding a title @ 160, Andy Lee with the WBO belt & Matthew Mackin as the IBF champ the other 2.

The reign of Mike Jones as IBF WW champ turned out to be a short one. Jones took the belt from Alfonso Gomez in June with an 11th round cut TKO in a close fight - Gomez leading on 2 of the 3 cards.

Mike's 1st defense took place in Italy vs. Antonio Moscatiello. The fight was close until around the 4th when an uppercut sent Jones to the canvas for a count of 4. AM basically proceeded to beat up Jones the rest of the fight until a left hook ended matters @ 2:21 of the 12th.

AM was up 329 to 154 in PL & ahead on the cards: 107-100, 108-100 & 108-99.

Wayne Alexander won another MW belt - this time the IBO's version with a 6th round KO (rib shot) of Andy Kolle. This was a fight between 2 punchers, Andy having 5 KO's in his 6 wins but the Brit proved too tough. It's Wayne's 4th straight KO win @ 160 since he dropped down to face Miguel Cotto for his WBA JMW belt earlier this year - Cotto winning that fight by KO.

Now the UK has 4 of the 5 belts @ 160: Wayne with the IBO version, Herol Graham - WBA, Matthew Macklin - IBF & Ireland's Andy Lee - WBO.

Wayne improves to 15-4 @ 160.

Lukas Konecny received a 2nd title shot but this one didn't go much better than the 1st one. Lukas had won 7 straight fights since his 15 UD loss to Fernando Vargas in his WBO JMW bid years ago.

Lukas hit the deck 4 times & had both eyes swelling (orange) after 15 rounds of a surprisingly 1 sided beating from IBO JMW champ, Travis Simms. For some reason Lukas had under trained coming into this fight & it showed, Simms landed 424 punches to 198 for Lukas.

Simms easily won on all 3 cards: 148-133, 147-134 & 146-134.

The champ moves to 15-2-1 with his 2nd title defense & plans 1 more late December title defense to close out the year.

Ivan Kirpa burst onto the scene earlier this year with a surprising KO of Jackson Osei Bonsu (JOB) in what was supposed to be a tune up fight for JOB.

With that win, Ivan earned a shot @ the IBO WW belt & made the most of it with a 6th round KO of defending champ, Richard Gutierrez. Kirpa was cut over both eyes in the 5th round & must have felt the urgency by ending the fight 1 round later. Ivan trailed 47-48 on all 3 cards & Richard was also ahead on PL: 157-84.

Kirpa becomes the 5th fighter from Europe to hold a WW crown:

WBC - Thomas Damgaard - Denmark
WBA - Ismael El Massoudi - France
IBF - Antonio Moscatiello - Italy
WBO - Selcuk Aydin - from Turkey but fights out of Germany
IBO - Ivan Kirpa - Russia
