Page counter edit box weirdness

This is a small but annoying thing which I seem to remember happening in previous versions. When I'm looking at my list of free agents and it's too long to page through with the PgUp/PgDn keys, I will often use the edit box to jump a hundred pages or what have you. The problem is that sometimes, when I click in the edit box, it will freeze for a couple seconds, then the cursor will disappear and I will have to click on it again. On rare occasions, this will happen multiple times in a row. What's going on?

So, I have gone from page counters to scroll bars to avoid the problem noted above. However, there's now a new, minor issue. It seems that when my cursor happens to be hovering over something that generates a Tooltip, it prevents me from using my keyboard buttons to scroll through the list. What the heck?!
