2 Linux Issues: Fullscreen, Licence Key
1. Fullscreen mode crashes, and then I have to change back to windowed in the 'emergency' startup that next occurs. This has been a problem on Linux for years, across several distros and machines. Currently Arch Linux, Nvidia GeForce GT 730, driver 440.64 (latest).
2. Same problem as last year (but not previous years): the licence key is good for a few days and then has to be re-entered as the game reverts to demo mode. This one is rather annoying and I put up with it all last year. It's baaaack! Or maybe, never left. |

I haven't been able to make fullscreen work in Linux, but my issues are occasionally losing the facegens and game background in 3D. I need to start it in windowed mode (maximized the windows) and then things seem to work normally. I'm also using the proprietary Nvidia drivers.
The license is tied to various settings in your install, so if you install a kernel update as part of your system patching then you'll need to enter the license key again. |

Licence Key

Thank you for clarifying a baffling issue. But I won't give OOTP a pass on this highly annoying "feature." I think the OOTP folks should reconsider using something as volatile kernel version, as a part of the machine identification. Surely MAC address and disk storage configuration would do the job without causing headaches. Based on your insight, though, I've been able to code a simple shell script that makes the problem go away. However this shouldn't be necessary. Last edited by chipschap1; 04-10-2020 at 06:31 PM. |
