Auction House Laughs
86 OVR Dock Ellis - listed at 145,000 min
And the background of his card is a psychedelic swirl - appropriate for a guy who claims that he was tripping on LSD when he pitched his no-hitter. He also has a very good control rating, but he walked a whole bunch of guys in that no-hitter. Ridiculous prices for bronze cards right now, and Silvers starting to rise, too. |

That's an interesting one, because the buy now price happens to be the highest possible number that can be stored in a 32-bit signed integer... so since that's an entirely reasonable way for the auction house to store the prices, it may have "just" been somebody trying to find out how high of a price they could set. Which does, of course, leave the open question of why anyone would care when the limit is over 2 billion.
My favorite that I've run across was a buy now of 10 million... with a starting bid of 5. The combination of a wildly unrealistic buy now with the possibility of it actually selling at a price that would lose points vs. the instant sell just blew my mind.

I think that one was probably mine. I get bored of putting a 6 in the buy it now for 40's & 50's live cards occasionally and put some insane amount there. Trying to keep it cheap for people to get those low end live cards because I appreciate those who did the same when I was looking to buy them. I realize that a lot of the upper 50's are probably being purchased and marked up and resold as well as the bronzes I dump at 26 BIN but the cheap price is there the vast majority of the time.

Oh? I've never attempted it, since the 10% auction house cut is easy enough to figure in... but I do know that the interface only reports the sale price and does not take out the 10% cut in the amount displayed (i.e. "Congratulations, you've sold your card for 10PP!", but the Transaction History shows I only got 9). I also know that my brother (who has been playing since OotP 19) was very annoyed when he first sold a card at the minimum and discovered it still took the 10% cut, since he had assumed it wouldn't take a cut in that case. But maybe it was changed since then?

Hey guys...
Anybody get a look at Mike Leake's picture off his live card?

There are many, many cards with silly prices after the just past Historical + Discount weekend. There are so many Perfect and Diamond cards at 2X and even 3X the last 7 or all time even.

All right... this one made me laugh because of the coding fail, not anything that's actually for sale. Still... I was looking specifically for cards needed to complete the Tim name game collection, and apparently almost anyone can be Tim:

Ah... yep, I didn't catch that. I "only" looked at the actual text displayed for the card title. Interesting that it's looking at the full team name... I've searched for the abbreviated team name many times, and while certainly several of the full names include the abbreviated version, there are plenty that don't.

Sure looks like someone bought up a TON of mostly Golds and is now trying to sell them for about 10x or so of what they're worth.
To whoever it is - not interested! |

That's nothing...with the release of the FOTF collections, almost every single non live card is going to be way over inflated with ridiculous prices. It's good for the people with deep PP pockets but the avg Joe Schmoe better be happy with the cards he has for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, the AH is wrecked now, for the foreseeable future, after FOTF debuts. Nothing is going to sell for normal price, as everyone anticipates the next pile of Iron/Bronze/Silver/Gold cards they can list for 3-10x the value.
