thanks, kev.
rather than "pulling" for them, how about pulling them...team owner seems to have disappeared, they are yours if you want them.

Sure I will take over the Alabama team. I just need to read the rules of the league first.

New Rules; Looming Deadline

The SLCBA has just announced a loosening of trading and free agent rules in attempt to prevent a player's strike.

Also, the league announced that the deadline for new GM's to take over a team has been set as being June 7th, the day following the SLCBA All-Star game. It is now May 6 on the SLCBA calendar.

SLCBA TWIB Notes

SLCBA TWIB NOTES
May 8, 2011
Portland, ME., April 28, 2011 (SLCBA): The first month of
SLCBA regular season games are in the record books, and it is
still unclear which teams have "the stuff" to be called a
perennial...as in yearly contender, not a flower.

Maine is atop the Atlantic Division with the best record in
baseball, yet most experts agree that is most likely an early
season fluke.

In the Southern Division Georgia has held or shared the top
spot for most of the month in this juggling division. While most
experts give the nod to Virginia, no one would put that in writing.

Last week it appeared that Arkansas would be "the" team in the
Western Division, but at weeks close we have seen how quickly
things can turn around.

Nebraska got off to a perennial contender-like start this year,
but has played more like a flower since. However, they have
held the top spot in the Plains Division over the past month so
the question...are they "good enough" or just riding their early
season success?

Things are tough and close in the Mountain Division, every team
over .500 and the top dog, Colorado, despite 17 wins in 27
games, is not running away with anything.

In the Pacific division it may be a race of also-rans with
California thus far being the top flower in the division.

Trading and Free Agency has been opened up in a manner as not to allow players to take advantage of the droid-run teams and to maintain some "play with what you got" elements.

You have only until the All-Star break to sign on for a team, so grab it now while their still in the running.

Approaching mid-point of year one in SLCBA.
Plenty of teams left for those who enjoy slow sims and tight turnstiles in the clubhouse.

SLCBA TWIB NOTES
May 18, 2011
Portland, ME., May 18, 2011 (SLCBA): The week was one of
streaks, be it hitting streaks, homerun streaks, or pitching
streaks. It was also one where winning and losing streaks
figured prominently in the weeks final standings.

Kansas used the week to stretch their record win streak to 11,
vaulting from last to first in the Plains Division at weeks end.
Oklahoma stayed within 2 games of Kansas with their own 4
game win streak. Nebraska was steady and based on their hot
early start are still close. Texas used a 5 game win streak to
keep from falling out of the picture.

In the Pacific Division, its not about win streaks but losing
streaks. By virtue of not having more than a 2 game losing
streak during the week, Arizona holds the top spot in the division
while playing 3 games below .500. Nevada lost 8 in a row this
week, California and Washington both registered 6 losses in a
row on the week.

In the Mountain Division where 3 teams have won at least 20
games in 35, Wyoming used a 4 game win streak to hold a 2
game lead over New Mexico and their 5 game win streak this
week. Colorado was not hurt too much by their 5 game losing
streak, but Montana falls to 5 games out while playing the week
with a 4 game losing streak.

In the Atlantic Division, New York finished off a 5 game win
streak left over from last week, but other than that everyone was
playing average and nothing changed much here.

A similar situation exists in the Southern Division where at one
point this week, 3 teams were tied for 1st place. There is no
streaking of any kind going on here and the team that is able to
pull off a major win streak will move to the top and be hard to
overtake.

In the West Division, Iowa moves to the top of the division by
being the only team in the division not to have lost 2 games in a
row during the week. The other teams are not falling off the
face of the SLCBA planet, and anyone with a mini-win streak will
stay close here.

SLCBA TWIB NOTES
May 28, 2011
Portland, ME., May 28, 2011 (SLCBA): Is the cream beginning
to rise to the top? This week finds last weeks leaders solidifying
their stand at the top with increased leads over the rest of the
teams in their divisions as we approach the All Star break.

In the Plains Division, Kansas finished an 11-0 run to open some
breathing room from the rest of the division. Oklahoma is not
giving anything away and only 3 games back, and Texas and
Nebraska, playing well but inconsistent, are 5 back of a very hot
team.

In the Atlantic Division, Maine capitalized on a mini-streak to take
the largest lead over a 2nd place team by any team in the
league, 5 games over Massachusetts. Pennsylvania matches
any win streak with a similar losing streak and finds itself 7
games out. New York looked to be coming alive at the
beginning of the month, but by the end of the month they could
not keep it going and lose a couple of games on the leader.

The tightest race has been, and is, in the Southern Division.
However, where once each team held or shared the top position,
Virginia and Alabama have stumbled to 4 back of co-leaders
Florida and Georgia.

In the West, Iowa is stepping it up and stepping ahead by 3
games over Indiana and Arkansas. With a live body running
things in Des Moines now, that lead could increase. Illinois...how
much longer before expectations turn to disappointment?

Montana, while in most of their games, have fallen to 8 back of
Wyoming. These Buffalo ain't going no where soon; very tough
team. Colorado and the continued surprising New Mexico Silver
are close by Wyoming...do they have the stuff to stay there?

League officials are considering reclassifying the Pacific Division
as a Triple A league. Arizona leads this rat pack while
maintaining a record of 5 games below .500. Baseball is such a
great game! Hollywood wants this story if they maintain this
situation and somehow go through the playoffs and win it all!

But there's a lot more baseball to play!

This is the last week that new owners will be allowed to join. Some good teams are in need of a body to lead them in the 2nd half and into the playoffs!

East Bests West
in 1st All-Star Game, 9-5

Houston, TX, Jun 6 (BNN): Over 49,000 fans filled Bush Stadium in Houston Texas
to witness the 1st Annual SLCBA All-Star Game. Former President of the United
States, George W. Bush threw out the first pitch and announced, "The SLCBA;
you're either with us, or against us."

The near capacity crowd was definately with the SLCBA All-Stars as they roared
their approval and delight as the 'best in the business' presented them with pitching,
hitting, and base running for 10 innings of exciting baseball.

Despite taking place in an SL West ball park, the fans neverthelss roared their
approval as the East squad blew open a 5-5 game in the 10th with 4 runs and a 9-5
victory.

New Mexico pitcher Mike "Don't call me Merv Griffin" Douglas, the league's
winningest pitcher with 9 victories over the first half of the season, got things started
for the West side with a 3 inning, 1 hit, 2 strikeout peformance as the West led 3-0
after 3 innings.

Maine pitcher Bill Wilson (5-1, 1.92), didn't fare as well in his historic start for the SL
East.

In the West's half of the 2nd, Wilson's head was spinning as the West used some
nifty baserunning, including 2 of the 5 stolen bases they recorded on the day, and
only 2 hits to open the scoring and go up, 3-0.

Colorado pitcher John Frazier (6-1, 1.58) took over for Douglas and the West in the
4th and watched as the East played their own brand of exciting baseball.

The East was more direct in their scoring.

The East took the lead as they used 3 hits, including the 1st homerun hit in SLCBA
history, a 3-run shot by Virginia third baseman Jose Rodriguez (.321, 7, 33), to
knock Frazier from the game before the end of the inning and go up, 4-3.

Based on that homerun and his 3 ribbies, Rodriguez was named the games Most
Valuable Player, which caused many fans to boo when it was announced at the end
of the game by public address announcer Ed McMahon.

Many present thought that Indiana shortstop Jon "Big Steel" Lohse was more
deserving of the award. Lohse went 2-5 on the day, scoring 2 runs and knocking in
1 while being in the midst of both East scoring outbursts on the day.

The booing may have affected Rodriguez as he struck out his next 3 at bats in the
game while stranding 4 base runners.

Over the next 5 innings, the fans were treated to some quality pitching (Iowan
Gordon Williams pitches 2 1/3 innings of no-hit ball for the East; local favorite
Adelmar Mrtola struck out 3 in 2-plus innings of shutout ball for the West);

some quality baserunning (Arizona Scorpion Nacho Camal steals his 2nd base of
the game to go along with his 2 hits);

and some quality hitting (Massachusetts Patriot Miguel Barbosa goes long for the
East; Virginia's John Muggleston enters the game for the East as a pinch hitter and
goes 2-2 including the game's only triple).

The All-Stars went into the 8th inning tied at 5 and remained that way without a
threat by either side through the end of regulation.

With the league's two best firemen warming up in the West bullpen (Kenny Smith,
Tx., 15 saves, Tafari Gakere, Co., 14 saves), it looked like the West had the
advantage.

That advantage went all to hell as Gakere entered first to start the 10th inning; he
fails to retire a batter. Smith comes in to relieve Gakere and the East failed to blink.
The Easterners slapped around the two best relievers in baseball for 4 hits, 4 runs,
and 2 walks in the 10th to take a commanding 9-5 lead.

Ironically, after scoring 5 bases on the day, the West's last gasp is wiped away as
California's Salvador Reyes is caught stealing and the West otherwise go silently in
their half of the 10th.

Iowa's Bob Wright pitches 2/3 of an inning for the victory and Colorado's Tafari
Gakere, after allowing 3 runs while only throwing 7 pitches, is rightfully tagged with
the first loss in SLCBA All-Star history.

SLCBA Returns After All-Star Break

SLCBA TWIB NOTES
June 17, 2011
Division Leaders Update

SL East: Atlantic

The Maine Loggers have sorely missed Felipe
Mendez (.299, 17, 50). Since going down with an
injury on June 3, the Loggers have yet to hit a
homerun and their offense has let some good pitching go to
waste. Maine went 3-4 on the week, scoring more than 3 runs
only twice.

SL East: Southern

The Georgia Rebelswent 5-2 on the week with 5
games being decided by 1 run. While their offense was
allowing their opponents to stay close, Rebel pitchers
were making sure the wins stayed below the Mason Dixon Line.
Closer Alejandro Rodriguez (3-2, 12, 1.07) saved 4 of the 5
victories and starter Felix Mejia (10-2, 2.02) won 2 games on the
week.

SL East: Western

The Iowa Farmers went 4-3 on the week, gaining a game
on 2nd place Indiana. Helping to Farmers to a 16-8
May was sp Bob Sanders, who finished up May with a
5-2 record and a 3.61 ERA. Sanders now stands at 5-5 with a
4.40 ERA as he went through last week with an 0-2 record and a
6.75 ERA.

SL West: Plains Division

The Kansas Raiders were 3-4 on the week as they were
swept by the Wyoming Buffalo in 4 straight games.
Catcher Ernesto Gonzalez (.318, 0 hr, 8 rbis in 29
games) hit in all 7 games this week and batted .448. CF Sammy
Hansen (.291, 3, 18) batted .407 on the week with 7 rbis.

SL West: Mountain

The Colorado Rockies held the top spot in the Mountain
Division for much of the 1st half of the year, but fell 2
back in late May before regaining the lead before the
All-Star break. The Rockies used a 4-3 week to hold a 1 game
lead over Wyoming. Starter Tim Hawkins (6-5, 3.65) pitched a
2-hit complete game shutout over Washington this week as the
Rockies swept a 4 game series with the Olympians.

SL West: Pacific

The Arizona Scorpions remain the leader of this rat pack
despite going 1-6 on the week, which included being
shutout 3 consecutive games. Starter Nathan Riley (2-8,
3.51) lost his 8th game of the year; Javier Pena (6-7, 2.96) lost
his 7th of the year; and Alphonso Lopez (4-6, 4.21) lost his 6th.

SLCBA TWIB NOTES
June 27, 2011

Colorado becomes the "best team in baseball" as a 7-1 record on the week brings their season total to 42-23.

Unfortunately, one of the "second best teams in baseball," the Wyoming Buffalo, is in the same division as Colorado and stand only 1 game back of the Rockies.

Tied with Wyoming is Maine, the Atlantic Division leader who's nearest competitor is Massachusetts, 7 games behind the Loggers.

This week brought the SLCBA its first no-hitter as California's Adam Hill (
3-6, 6.08) embarrassed the Washington Olympians in a 3-0 victory. In his next start, Hill gave up 6 hits and 5 runs in 4 2/3 innings in a 7-2 loss to Colorado.

Georgia continues to be locked with Florida in a duel for the Southern Division lead, and to further that cause, Georgia's Felix Mejia (12-2, 1.98) leads the league in victories after a week of getting his 1st shutout of the year and his 4th consecutive victory.

In the Western Division, Iowa continues to hold a 2 game lead over Indiana, despite suffering through a 5 game losing streak this week.

Kansas also holds a lead in the Plains division while withstanding a month where they are 6-9. Oklahoma, with a 3 game sweep of Kansas this week, are 1 game off the Plains Division pace.

Melvin Brumbach still holds the league's homerun lead with 18 despite being on the DL for the past 28 days. Brumbach also leads the SL West with 48 RBI's.

Georgia's Jeff Thomas and Wyoming's Lyle Goodman share the SLCBA batting lead at .347. Goodman collected 11 hits in 32 at bats, while Thomas collected 7 in 29 at bats this week.

Wyoming's Gordon McQuiston (2-3, 19, 1.99) saved 5 games in 5 appearances this week, and has now recorded 9 straight saves to lead the league with 19.

Raul Benavidez of Kansas stole 4 bases during the week's 8 games to take over the league lead with 18.

John Roberson (7-1, 1.30), the league's ERA leader, pitched 15 innings of shutout ball (7 hits, 7 K's) in his 2 victories this week.

Division Leader Update

SL East: Atlantic Division

The Maine Loggers went 5-2 on the week. sp Ramon
Otero (8-5, 2.63) was lost for the season and the
Loggers signed p Yasuo Takahashi who took the loss in
a 1-0 loss to Arkansas in his first start. League batting
leader Nick Pace (.350, 6, 44) hit .413 for the week.

SL East: Southern Division

The Georgia Rebels went 6-1 on the week to inch
ahead of the pesky Florida Heat by 2 1/2 games. sp
Reggie Brown (5-0, 1.24) won his 5th game without a
loss in 10 starts, and now is within 1 game of the league
record of 11 starts without a loss. rf Kenny Huber
(.342, 9, 47) hit .434 on the week.

SL East: Western Division

The Iowa Farmers get back on the winning track with a
5-3 week, including a 5 game win streak, and extend
their lead to 3 games over 2nd place Indiana. With an
already shaky bullpen, ranking 7th in the SL East with a
4.32 ERA, the Farmers lost reliever Gordon Williams
(5-2, 1, 2.50) for the year this week. Replacing Williams
will be 35 year old free agent Kyle Unicume, who's OSA
pitching ratings of 16-16-15 should be a big lift for Iowa
in the season's stretch run.

SL West: Plains Division

The Kansas Raiders went 5-2 on the week to open a 4
game lead over 2nd place Texas and Oklahoma. The
Raiders pitching staff recorded 4 shutout victories on
the week. Kansas now shares the league lead of 11
shutouts with Texas and Montana, while holding a
commanding league lead with 21 complete games.

SL West: Mountain Division

The Colorado Rockies went 5-3 on the week, including
shutout wins over Oklahoma and 2nd place Wyoming.
sp Adam Dixon (9-4, 2.20) won his 2 starts this week,
one a shutout over Wyoming, to give him 5 wins in his
last 5 starts and he has now gone 7 games without a
loss. sp John Frazier (9-2, 2.58) failed in 2 starts this
week to pick up his 10th victory on the year as he was
belted by California for 7 runs and then earns a
no-decision as he allows 3 runs in 8 innings in a 4-3 win
over Wyoming.

SL West: Pacific Division

The Arizona Scorpions, surviving atop the Pacific
Division despite being 5 games under .500, went 2-5
this week and hold a 1 game lead over 2nd place
California. The Scorpions are a woeful 12-26 on the
road while standing with a 19-15 mark at home.

20 Games To Go In Season #1

StatesLeague.com

With 20 games to go in the inaugural SLCBA season, 9 teams are within 5 games of the division leaders, making for a tight race for the 2 wildcard spots as well as for exciting divisional races and an expected exciting finish to the season.

SL East
In the Atlantic Division, Maine is holding what should be a comfortable 10 game lead over its nearest rival, Massachusetts. However, this past week Maine lost an All-Star catcher for the remainder of the regular season, and a top closer to an injury which ought to put him of action for at least 2 weeks.
New York, 3rd in the Atlantic, 12 behind Maine, is trying to overcome some early season problems and has been climbing the wildcard standings where now they sit just 5 games out from the Florida Heat for the playoff gimme.

In the Southern Division, Georgia, the only team meeting pre-season expectations, has been battling Florida for most of the season for the top spot although the Rebels have recently opened a 3 game lead over the Heat. It may be an interesting finish here as the 2 teams will meet each other for 3 games to end the regular season.

In the Western Division, it has been Iowa and Indiana at the top since early May, with Arkansas hanging around causing fits every now and then. The Iowa Farmers slipped a bit in June, as did the Indiana Steelers, but both have regained their form with Iowa the strongest as they hold a 4 game lead over the Steelers and Arkansas hanging around but running out of time at 7 back.

Indiana is 3 back of Florida for the wildcard spot, Arkansas, 6 back.

SL West
Twice this season it appeared that a team in the Plains Division would be breaking things open and run away with the division race. First, the Nebraska Airmen put together a 12-3 start to the season but by the end of April their fortunes had changed and they sat 6 games back of the lead in last place.

The Kansas Raiders took over the top spot in the division with an 18-6 May, but the Texas Cowboys and Oklahoma Oilmen would not fold and Kansas did not run away with anything.

Currently, Kansas is holding a 2 game lead over Texas with Oklahoma 3 back. Nebraska has stopped its downward spiral and is matching the others well enough to hang only 5 back. Kansas is not the team it was in May so the end of the season in this division could be like an old western shootout.

Three of the top 4 teams in the league play in the Mountain Division, so while only one will wear the division crown, the other two dominate the battle for the SL West wildcard.

Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico have all at least shared a spot atop the Mountain Division, with none of them able to shake the others and beat their chest atop the mountain for long. The Colorado Rockies currently hold a 2 game lead over the currently struggling Wyoming Buffalo, while New Mexico, which has the better July record of the three teams, is 4 back.

Wyoming and New Mexico sit atop the SL Wildcard list, with Wyoming a 2 game leader over New Mexico. Texas and Oklahoma probably should win their division if they want to get into the playoffs, due to the fact that they sit 8 and 9 games back of Wyoming for the wildcard draw.

For most of the season the Pacific Division has been the butt of jokes as no team has been able to fashion a record of .500 or better. Arizona carried the torch for this rat pack for much of the season, yet their shabby play continued while the other teams in the division actually began playing well…although they are all still below .500.

The California Suns began their resurgence in July and currently walks atop the Pacific with a 2 game lead over the Washington Olympians. However, Washington currently has the best record in the SLCBA for the month of July and with their best in the West starting pitching, California may not stay in the sun too long.

The Nevada Gamblers cannot be left out like some red-headed step child either. In this division even their poor play has them within 5 of the division leader.

Of course, none of these Pacific teams are likely to come within spitting distance of the SL West wildcard spot, so if they want to print playoff tickets, they had better get hot and win the division.

absolutely.
will be staying with 11.
openings will be available, i'm sure.
expansion is not in any plans as of now.
slow simming and restrictive player moves, but working on some ideas to free that up and while still insuring fairness and a sense that you must play with what you have...even for the droid teams.

1st SLCBA Regular Season Comes to a Close

StatesLeague.com

The 1st SLCBA regular came to a close last night and after 100 games with 2-days/sim (we started in May), fans and owners are eager for the playoffs.

Before the official playoffs begin, there will be to sudden-death playoff games to determine 2 divisional winners.

In the SL East Western Division, the Iowa Farmers lose 6 of their last 7 games to allow the Indiana Steelers to tie them for the division lead. Iowa and Indiana will face off tonight to determine the Western Division Champion. Indiana leads the season series with Iowa, 10-2, and will send Victor Cook (3-5, 3.95) to the mound, despite his having only 4 starts this season. Iowa is scheduled to counter with Bryan Miller (8-8, 2.41) who has faced Indiana twice in his last 6 starts, pitching 9 1/3 shutout innings without a decision in a 1-0 win in July, and then a week ago, getting the loss despite only allowing 2 earned runs in 7 innings.

Kansas will travel to Texas in the league's other sudden-death playoff game, to crown a Plains Division champion. Kansas held the top spot since May 12 and just recently fell back as Texas moved into 1st place. Kansas was able to create the playoff as they won their last game of the season against Texas, who had taken the first 2 of a final 3 game series with Kansas. Kansas will send Luis Cordova (10-11, 3.69) to the mound to try and give the Raiders the edge in the teams' season series (6-6). Cordova led the league in complete games with 13 and will go the distance whether he's giving up 6 runs or pitching a shutout. Texas counters with Kevin Desautels (9-9, 3.36), who was hammered in his last regular season start against Oklahoma, giving up 8 runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Those teams enjoying a few days of rest before the playoffs include the Atlantic Division Champions, Maine Loggers who were tied for the 2nd best record in the league (61-39) and held onto the SL East playoff home-field advantage when Joe Stone (9-9, 3.45) pitched a 2-hit shutout over the Pennsylvania Quakers on the next to the last day of the season.

From the Southern Division, the Georgia Rebels battled the Florida Heat for most of the year, before pulling away in July on the arm of probable Cy Young winner, Felix Mejia (17-3, 1.85). Florida ends up with the consolation prize, the SL East wildcard slot, as they take 2 of 3 games from Georgia to end the season.

From the SL West's Mountain Division, Wyoming, the league's best team this year with a 63-37 record, will be home throughout the playoffs, and their division rival, the Colorado Rockies, with 61 wins on the year coming away with the West's wildcard spot.

The California Suns hold off a determined Arizona Scorpion team to win the Pacific Division, despite being 4 games under .500. Do not count the Suns out however, as they hold a 6-2 season record against Wyoming, and are 5-3 against Texas. Against Kansas and Colorado, on the other hand, they are a combined 2-14.

Indiana, Florida, Kansas, Texas, Wyoming, Colorado, and California are all droid run teams, so if anyone would like to run these teams through the playoffs, please contact me.

SLCBA Comish Credits NY GM

Commissioners Honorable Mention Goes to New York's GM, Kureen: New York was
favored to win the Atlantic Division this year, but their pitching let down a powerful
offensive club and by the All-Star break they were 12 games out of the lead and 5
games under .500.

They turned it around in the 2nd half, going 30-20 and although they never
threatened the division lead, they did mount a late season charge on the wildcard
berth by going 15-9 in July and coming to within 2 games of the wildcard spot during
the last week of the season.

Simming only 2 SLCBA calendar days per real day, 5 nights a week, a schedule that
took us from May to August for the regular season, it is very hard for human
managers to stay attached to the game, and when you are losing, it is much more
frustrating and hard to stay with the program...many would not.

Kureen was there even when NY was sucking hind teet.

Kureen was the only human manager present for the initial SLCBA draft. Kureen
was there even when I kept misspelling his name. Kureen was there when NY went
6-15 in April.

And he never bitched.

Where probably the vast majority of GM's would throw in the towel under this
schedule format, coupled with the losing circumstances which NY was going through,
I would seriously like to thank Kureen very much for his commitment to the season.

SLCBA in Post Season

StatesLeague.com

The SLCBA has ended its 1st regular season with the California Suns upsetting all comers and taking the 1st National Title.

Post-season awards have been given, arbitration cases have been heard, and many stars have elected to file for free agency.

We are looking for some real GMs to shape some good teams for the coming season.

If you like slow simming seasons and short seasons, come take a look and choose a team.

We will not be starting right away as some changes are in the works and need to be finalized; but come take a look while we are under construction.

Recruiting for Season #2

StatesLeague.com

The SLCBA is readying for season 2 and has made some changes to
attract some GM-ers.

Free agent drafting/bidding and trading has been opened up to make
things more interesting.

Looking to start the next season sometime in October and there are many
teams available.

We still will be simming slow - 2 games per day, Mon-Fri. Thus, the regular season will go about 12 real-time weeks as we play a 100 game schedule with an all-star break and 3 rounds of playoffs.

Please visit the site and review the Rules, review the previous year, and sign up to run a team.
