Category: Manager Fired

Category: MANAGER_FIRED (#135)
Provided is: 1 person (the former manager), 1 team (the one which fired the manager)

Please write a New Story for a manager, who is fired.
Quotes by the GM and manager might dress it up.

Example #1
The rumors had been swirling for weeks, and the Boston Shamrocks made it official today by firing manager Dick Williams. The Shams will go with an interim manager until candidates can be interviewed. Third base coach Louie "Lips" Duroche will take over. GM Larry McPhail told SION reporters that he hadn't seen any progress in the club this year and decided to make the change. Williams, who is in his second year of handling the team, said he was disappointed that he wasn't given more time. "Nowadays nobody has any patience. Management and the fans want you to compete right away. Nobody wants to give you time...and you simply can't turn a team around overnight. It is a lengthy process, especially when you are going the rebuilding route, using young players. Give this club a couple of more years and you will see the difference.I hate to leave before the job is done, but it is not my decision. I just hope they give the next guy the time that he needs."

The knives are out, and blood is in the water. Tony LaRussa was "terminated for cause" as the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. The scene around the stadium was not pretty.

Cardinal GM Walt Jocketty was openly disdainful of LaRussa, calling him " a lousy game manager, dishonest, and a poor evaluator of talent." He went on a verbal rampage several minutes long that was impressive in detailing LaRussa's shortcomings, but due to the relentless profanity peppering the tirade, SION is unable to accurately report precisely the degree of enmity Jocketty displayed.

A short time later, in a spur of the moment press conference in LaRussa's driveway, the ex-manager replied in kind. "Walt Jocketty can't draft, can't trade, and can't wheel and deal. He possesses a very limited mind, and is a complete failure as a baseball man."

It's going to take a tough minded new skipper in St. Louis in order to get the Cardinals back in the hunt.

The Helena Handbaskets made it official today, giving manager Joe Schmo his walking papers in a move that had long been rumored. In a statement released to the press, general manager Will Andeal said, "Letting anyone go is always a tough decision, but after reviewing the team's progress and discussing the future with Joe, the front office decided that a change was necessary." Third baseman Bill Jones summed up the mood of the team when he said, "It'll be tough sitting on the bench and not seeing Joe on the top step of the dugout, but it's a business and a game, and these things happen." Schmo led the Handbaskets for 3 seasons, compiling a record of 226-260.

(Note: This story would be a lot easier to write if manager records are tracked in 2K7...)

Today, the Birds announced Wednesday morning that John Doe has been dismissed as manager. The Birds had asked him to resign but he declined.

"Doe has been a tremendous asset to this organization," general manager Jack Handy said. "He worked hard both on and off the field with the best interests of the Birds in mind. However, we thought it best at this time for a fresh perspective."

A Birds official said the club will take its time in looking for a new manager.

"You're outta here!!", said the Atlanta Chickens today, when they fired manager Stu Gutwrench, after the ballclub's recent meeting with the manager. Insiders close to the Chickens had predicted this would be the end for Gutwrench, but the team made it official today.

The Chickens GM Vern Buzzsaw made the announcement, stating, "We felt the franchise has not performed up to the standard we expect from a Chickens team, and a change had to be made." He then added, "Gutwrench is a capable manager, and we wish him the best on his future endeavors."

Stu Gutwrench could not be reached for comment, but according to Buzzsaw, "He understood the decision we made." No report as to who will replace Gutwrench, nor whether the departed manager has spoken with other teams about his services.

Hopefully Markus will put this in.

The game needs to be able to cover News Stories in more detail with team records and team position in the standings.

Would it be possible

to include triggers in the news story generation? Since certain elements -- at least for player stories -- already need to happen, I'm thinking so?

I.e., rather than complete stories more or less randomly selected, setting certain criteria to include key sentences/clauses/descriptions based on a few simple criteria.... or would such a lookup in the text generation be too taxing while maintaining sim speed?

I was thinking something like - just as few quick examples....

1. Maybe short little lookups to grab an adjective or clause:
Chicago sports radio won't have Dusty Baker to kick around any more. Baker's $Get_tenure ("short" if 1-3, NULL if 3-5 seasons, lengthy if 5+) tenure captaining the Good ship Cub ran aground on the shoals of a rocky start to the 2006 season.

Or -- even tailor the story 'slant' to circumstances....

Perform a lookup on relative player total for say -- the last 3 years, yielding para2, either:

1 (if payroll increased or remained relatively constant -- or, compares favorably to the rest of the division/league) == With Cub management opening the checkbook -- the Cubs have had one the five largest payrolls in baseball since 2004 -- GM Jim Hendry felt the time had come for a change. "The team just never came together. We felt the talent was there, but the record wasn't. With X months of baseball left, we think there's still time to turn things around."

or

2 (if payroll fell) == Baker's defenders point out that the Cubs have been steadily slashing payroll since 2004, losing a number of talented players to free agency over the past two seasons.

or

3 (if no pattern) == skip... and maybe do another lookup, like say... pythag record -- and enter another loop.

Basically -- instead of complete stories, figure 3 paras...

Para1 would be an introduction - maybe doing a few simple lookups for adjectives (short/lengthy for tenure.... "shocking firing"/"unsuprising"/etc depending on career record)

Para2 would result from some sort of performance relative to whatever (payroll... record... etc), with several options depending on the results.

Para3 would then become the wrap-up -- maybe an age lookup would result in "is this the end of the line?" text... etc

zonk, this forum is for actual text suggestions only.

This thread is for News Stories for the category "Manager Fired'.

It is a request for the Public to write an actual news story for the subject mentioned.

You need to post your suggestions and requests in the 2006 Suggestions and New Features Wish List Forum...I know it is labelled "2006", but the forum is for V2007, too.

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...sprune=30&f=16

If I understood your post, the game already is capable of a few conditional news stories. In V2006 there were conditions for a young player, veteran player, power hitter, great player, good player, mediocre player, power pitcher, finesse pitcher...but these are limited.

But in theory I think you request is possible, if the proper conditions are coded into the game.

The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry and it's pretty clear that hiring [manager] was one of them. The [team] parted ways with their skipper after failing to reach the lofty goals they had when hiring him. The [team]'s recent struggles were clearly a reflection of a need for a change at the helm, and [manager]'s firing was not unexpected. "The [team] wishes [manager] the best of luck," said a team spokesman, "and we're glad for the time we had him here. We don't feel his hiring was a mistake, but we also don't feel that he's still the right man for the job here."

Rumors that surrounded the [team] over the past several weeks finally proved true as [manager] was fired today. Rumblings of unrest had been leaked out of the clubhouse as word that [manager] and his players were not seeing eye-to-eye began to bubble over. The internal feud became a source of speculation and controversy in the press that the team now hopes it can put behind them. Surprisingly, [manager]'s reputation doesn't seem to have taken much of a hit around the league, as other teams are already rumored to be interested in his services for next season.
