Dugout Wizards - Historical 70s league has openings

Dugout Wizards is a league that started with the 1964 season with full minors. We're in the offseason, having just completed 1974. We are still in the reserve clause era but free agency is right around the corner.

As we prep for '75 we have three openings:

Available teams are:
Minnesota Twins - The Twins have a trio of outstanding young hitters in Greg Luzinski, Bill Madlock and Sixto Lezcano but are thin on the mound where Ken Brett is the sole standout. They also have Chet Lemon, LaMarr Hoyt and Ed Whitson on the farm.

Oakland A's - This team won 93 games last season, so there is some talent on the roster. The biggest name is Reggie Jackson, but the best player on the team is probably Brian Downing. They also have Lee Lacy and Glenn Adams and an ace in Chuck Dobson. Farmhands include Claudell Washington, Bob Knepper, Eric Rasmussen and Jerry Remy.

St. Louis Cardinals - A good team in the tough NL East, the Cards' strength is pitching and a couple of good young hitters. Bob Gibson is still a true ace at age 39 but the big star is Richie Zisk. 21-year-old Keith Hernandez is a rising star. They also have a starting outfield in the wings on the farm (Dave Collins, Lee Mazzilli & Dwayne Murphy).

Both the A's & Twins have suffered largely due to absentee GMs. The Cardinals went through that themselves before the most recent guy did a good job of steadying the ship. We're hoping to find good, long GMs for these teams, all three of which have good upside.

Coaches are on (I've created real coaches for all teams as historically accurate as possible).
Scouting is off.
The ratings scale we're using is 2-8.
Injuries are set to 'Low'
Finances are on with reserve clause in effect
Amateur draft occurs each June and like the real MLB draft, is only for US, Canadian or Puerto Rican players. We use a lottery/draft system for the non-draft-eligible free agents.

We use Slack as our primary discussion method but also have a league forum that is used for long-term storage of trade confirmations and other league events.

The rules for the league can be found on the league website.

Shoot me a pm here on use the 'Info' link on the league's website to get in touch.

Thanks for taking a look!

Joe’s leagues are fantastic. The premise is always interesting, the competition is excellent, and he runs them with the highest integrity. Also, using Slack, the engagement between the owners in the league is great and adds to the experience.

If you are not in an online league, or even if you are in a league, and like historical teams and historical players, this league is for you.
