..continued.
Here is my latest draft's 1st round. 8 of the first 11 players picked are either named Tom, Dusty or Pat. Looking at the other rounds, it seems to be the same 20 or so names. Last edited by Habsfan18; 12-01-2014 at 09:38 PM. |

I'm not sure whats going on with the draft but as far as the clicking random name, I wouldn't trust that as a test. It's like when you randomize team nicknames, the same one will show every few clicks.
Try opening the first_names.txt in the database folder and see how many first names are in there. You could also try lowering the number beside the name to make it less frequent.

'Dave' should be stuck on only about 1 out of every 100 players. |

Hmm, I'm not sure what I did wrong then. I did exactly what was required from the readme. My name and first_name files are the 2000 sets and game world.xml and ethnicities files are yours as well. I re imported database and name and ethnicities files. Basically every step from the readme.

I re-did the entire process last night too. And then re-imported. Still getting Dave's and Tom's etc.
I must be doing something wrong though. Just can't figure it out. |

Is this a fictional league or one started with the MLB quickstart? The MLB Quickstart has some hacks done to it that seem to make re-importing names a spotty transaction......

It's an imported 2013 quickstart that was started in OOTP14. I'm currently in 2040 now, I've been using your nameset since 2032 and never paid much attention to the names. Started noticing lately.

Looks like it was indeed the MLB quickstart. I created a fictional league using the name files and it's all good.
I wonder if I started a new MLB Quickstart would it be fine? Are the potential issues only if I re-import to an already existing game? |

No, it would not be fine. The MLB Quickstart is its own animal and does not play well with others.

Just a friendly query regarding OOTP16. Are any updates needed to the OOTP15 set or will they work (incuding the .xml file)?

I am in the process of updating the .xml.
Should be done tonight, hopefully. The old one will work (I'm pretty sure), but the new one is a little better. |

In case you are monitoring this thread, I have sent a new file to ootpmods.com and started a new thread on Questdog's Names for OOTP16.

P.S. As usual, if you cannot wait for ootpmods.com to make the file available, I can email you a copy if you PM me an email address. Your email account needs to be able to accept an attachment of approximately 2 MB.

Just a suggestion for future versions. The use of American as the title for both the USA and the USA where black players are generated is a bit confusing when trying to generate players. I used my editor to change the black player's nationality to African American so there is no confusion when creating players. I also edited the nation name to Freedom (just an ironic thought about the end of slavery but continued discrimination in the period) to differentiate the two.

The advantage was in player creation and if you are moving a team.
So lets say you are moving a team from Toronto to Pittsburgh. When you pull down the list you have two USA's. Not a huge deal but if you pick the wrong one and reset league percentages to 100% of the home nation you get both the black USA and the non black USA come up. This is really minor and easily fixed. The hard part is creating free agents in the segregated era. When you go to free agents and click create free agents there is a drop down for nationality. Both the nationalities say American. So it is real easy to accidentally create a large batch of African Americans in a segregated league. The same can happen if you are creating for negro leagues but you get a bunch of white players in the league for African Americans. Then you have a lot of editing to do. That is why I use the nation editor to change the nationality of the black player USA to African American. No guessing which one is which when creating free agents. Part of this is just the way OOTP works. If you just create random nationality, it uses the nation's stars to allocate players so you get African Americans, Dominicans etc. Therefore you have to specify USA and if get the wrong USA you have to delete FAs or edit them to keep the league segregated during segregation. I am not sure if 16 will have the same lack of player creation problems I saw in 15 when you have a bunch of independent minors prior to the Branch Rickey era.
