Fictional League with player pool of all time great players?

Used to play Earl Weaver baseball on the Amiga back in the day. Followed ootp over the years and finally bought it for version 20. Really like it but there's a lot to learnt.

I want to create a fictional League with 10-12 teams player pool of all the all time great players. From Ty Cobb to Barry Bonds and start the league with a fantasy draft. Is there a way to do that?

1. Go to Baseball-Reference.com

2. Look up the players you have in mind for this league. Note their ID codes, usually the first five or six letters of their last names and the first two letters of their first name plus a number, depending on whether they're in the minor league database or not. Most historical players will have played in the minors prior to their major league debut, so they may be in a minor league database as well, with more characters available for their player code, or if they were foreign or Negro League players who never made the majors, for example. Independent league players may also have ID codes for BB-Ref as well. Be aware, however, that some players may have the same first name, or at least share the first two letters of their first names as Baseball-Reference lists them in their player lists, so that is where the numerical part of the ID code comes into play.

3. Once you have collected all the codes of the players that you wish to use, then put them in a text file, like a Notepad text file, for instance, and include the season that you want to use for said players like so:

musiast01,1942,STL
ruthba01,1927,NYY

If you want them to go to specific teams once imported, use the desired abbreviations for the relevant teams. If not, do not include said abbreviations, and they will either go to the appropriate free agent pool or to the next appropriate draft pool, if you have the necessary box checked for drafting purposes. Do NOT forget to save the text file you are working on, as often as needed.

4. Then use the "Import Historical Players" function, and do as you like and as the pop-up then requests of you. You can import the player list where it says you should choose the text file to use, et cetera, as you like and can.

Hope all this information is easy enough for you to understand, and all. Please let us know if this helps you enough.

Do you know of a way to mass import players from the minor league master?

Same thing should work for those in the minor league player databases, such as ones who played only in the Negro Leagues, for example, as already stated with part two of the above instructions.

Say, for instance, you want someone like a young Satchel Paige in your game. In his case, you might go here to get his BB-Ref ID:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=paige-001ler.

If you'd want to import him as a 20-year-old player, you'd add the following line to your file:

paige-001ler,1927

If you'd want to assign him to a specific team upon import, you would then add the required team abbreviation after a comma that follows the season you'd wish to import him as being from.

This works for any number of players, as long as they have usable enough BB-Ref ID codes, even if they're only in the minor league database. Even if they only played in foreign leagues such as the ones in Japan, for example, it should still work. That's if you have the proper ID codes found and used in the text file you are using for mass importing of historical players into your desired league and/or desired draft pools, or free agency pools, or for adding to specific teams upon importing said players, of course.

Some players may have two different IDs on baseball-reference, one for their major league experience, and one for their non-major league experience as players. In that case, you can use either, I believe, to import players at whatever ages you choose for them to start play in your league at.

Hope all this information helps anyone looking for it, of course. And hopefully it's simple enough to understand here well enough somehow, too. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask others around the forums, like Spritze, for example, who might be able to explain things better to you folks here than I might be able to easily. CD out.

To piggyback on what CD said you can create a text file using notepad for example to mass import. then in game go to Free agents or draft pool and import historical player and select either master.cvs . Then in game it gives you an option to look for minor league players.

If you have a text file of both minor leaguers and MLers and you selct look for minor leaguers it will import the MLers with minor league attributes in some cases, mainly fielding. example
Shawon Dunston normally imports with around a 6 defense (1-10 scale)
When selected as a MLer but with minor league database he imports as a 2 and becomes basically unusable.
I regularly import historical minor leaguers into my various leagues. Some do well
attached in an example
Attached Files
File Type: txt IBL 2033.txt (79 Bytes, 34 views)
