Question about your personal preferred tactis
So I am trying to decide what the best way to try to build a young team and tactics to use. Of course in baseball there are tons of ways to go about building a team and tactics and strategy that go with that.. you could go for small ball with tons of speed on the bases.. you could go for more big home run hitters and try and play long ball, you could go sabermetric and the other options preset or something of your own design entirely.
Anyways what I am wondering is what you have had the most success with so far as far as building a winning team up? I am thinking that I would like to go with a Rockies challenge mode game but I have not quite decided what route I want to go as far as how I want to rebuild and the tactics/types of young players to try and build around that might work best. Thanks! Any general baseball strategy and thoughts would be awesome to get some fun baseball chat going with opening day coming up .. tomorrow for the Rockies at least |

frogman, you demonstrated in your question that there is no hard and fast rule for building a successful baseball team. You need to be sufficient in all aspects and excellent in a few to win.
That's a lame answer to leave you with. I will give you a hint from my OOTPB experience which seems to bear out an old baseball adage: Good pitching beats good hitting.

some tips:
- invest in defense up the middle. C, 2B, SS, and CF should be solid defenders. - don't give big money contracts to players over 30 years old - look at peripheral stats, aka Sabremetric stuff. Understanding stuff like FIP, BABIP, L/R splits, batted ball profiles, etc. are key to finding undervalued players. - consider your park. For example I play as the Giants who play in a park where it's very difficult to hit home runs. So I try to find players with good OBP and gap power instead of sluggers. For the Rockies, I would focus on ground ball pitchers since balls hit in the air there are so dangerous. |
