Goldschmidt v. Gallo
Just starting up a new solo as the Diamondbacks (trying out a smaller market team). Looking for an opinion however.
If you were in the same position, would you keep the currently more expensive Paul Goldschmidt, or trade him straight up for Joey Gallo as your new 1B? Gallo still technically has to develop, but obviously has some cheaper years and more control. Goldschmidt is proven, but his contract demand will probably skyrocket soon. Thoughts? |

I'd take Gallo. No-brainer. If he flops you get the budget space.

I would say it is a brainer. Goldschmidt is proven, Gallo is not. There isn't one clear answer here.
I would say stick with Goldschmidt, because he's Mr. Diamondback. But you can make the case to trade for Gallo. More upside if he develops, but he might not. How much of a gambling man are you? It sounds like you're leaning Gallo...

I dropped Goldschmidt and Yasmany Tomas to the Astros for Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Marwin Gonzalez, Cy Sneed, and Michael Feliz.
Overall Gonzalez made the AS game and was traded for profit. Bregman and Tucker became multi All star and MVP winners (Bregman was MVP twice) Feliz was a bust, potential, just zero results was out of the league by 29. Cy Sneed was a HOF closer after he failed as a starter. Goldschmdit was out of the league by 34, but put up solid if unspectaular numbers. Tomas was a bust for the Astros after putting up a 3.4 WAR for me, he had only one positive WAR season since. I would evaluate your situation and see who you could get other than Gallo. Gallo repetitively pans in my leagues and is out of it by 30.

Easy. Keep Goldschmidt. If you're going to trade him, get multiple prospects, not a bust like Gallo.

doesn't gallo strike out 200 times a year if he plays alot? i've seen him put up good power number before.. but i'm not a fan of 160-200k/season type of hitters.
if they have the ratings to hit .300+ and power consistently with some huge years (.330-.350+), that's about the point where i ignore rate of k's. so... something approaching trout-like ratings. ha! that's wherei remember the name... i think gallo put up 2700+ k's in one of my leagues. since he played so much, he had a ton of HR too, relative to my LT.LTM |
