Texas completes the sweep of Seattle this afternoon with a 2-1 win. Hunter Pence's 6th inning home run, his 10th of the season, provided the margin of victory. Hunter's career seemed over after posting OPS+s of 84 and 63 in his final two seasons with the Giants. New Rangers hitting Luis Ortiz's magic dust has brought that leaden bat back to life as Pence's current triple slash is .312/.364/.651. At age 36, his revival is almost as impressive as the wonders Ortiz has worked with Joey Gallo.

Texas have won 7 of their last 8 and move a game over .500.

Seattle started the season 13-2, but are 10-27 since that miraculous beginning and have sunk to the AL West cellar.

Dang you Rangers, you're giving me hope, improbable hope that this might be a successful season.

They should call the outfield wall in Camden Yds the "Gift Shop". The O's pitching staff is just dishing out future souvenirs. Can you imagine if they were the Rockies hurlers? They'd give up 400 HR's easily in Coors Field.

Haven't heard much buzz about the Twins (as if that is a surprise). But they are killing it.

They've been a blast to watch. Their offense is unbelievable, but their pitching has been pretty dang solid, as well.

The Twinkies are my only hope for baseball ever to gain any sort of traction over here. Of course it would help if Max Kepler would hit six home runs in the All Star Game and become AL, ALDS, ALCS, and WS MVP - three years in a row. Germans are stupid that way. They don't give a rat's ass about anything until a German guy is tearing it down top to bottom. Was the same when Nowitzki's Mavericks were any good. There was (mild) talk about the NBA on mainstream radio.

I have to admit that if I had the chance to watch German soccer, I probably wouldn't remember baseball has started until June.

Don't. I can tell you which team will raise the silver plate in May, all the way back at the start of the season in August. Because it is the same team every year.

Every.

Year.

This year that yellow clown's club from Northrhine-Westphalia held a 9-point lead in early spring... and managed to **** it all away. And the same team - which shall not be named - won again.

Baseball is great. Something different happens every year. When was the last time there were even repeat champions in baseball? Exactly!

Yeah, but Bayern Munich are only the champions of Germany. The MLB champion has to defeat the entire world.

That sounds a lot more difficult.

True, but as a Reds fan, I am already watching for the enjoyment of the games and not just to see who the champion is. Even if it not for the top spot, Bundesliga is a great watch.

So, what are the odds that Cody Bellinger continues to perform like this for the last two-thirds of the season and piles up a 16 WAR campaign which obviously would be the greatest year for a baseball player in the history of history.

Edit: Justin Turner lead the Dodgers with 4.5 WAR for the 2018 season. Bellinger is already at 5.4 WAR with 107 games left on the schedule.

I think the odds are greater that he breaks his leg well before he reaches 16 WAR.

I don't even want to consider that as it might summon a jinx and Bellinger played in all 162 games last season. Staying hot for an entire season is nigh impossible, that's why no one accomplishes 16 WAR not even the Bambino. Still, who would have thought that anyone in MLB would so swiftly rise this season to become a real challenger to Mike Trout for best player on the planet.

Pah. Bellinger can try stinking up to King Mike when he's lined up another five awesome seasons. By that time, Trout will have a dozen.

34 years after his dad was selected 3rd overall by Texas, Bobby Witt, Jr. is picked 2nd overall by the Royals. TCU's Nick Lodolo is the first pitcher selected lasting until the 7th pick. With the next pick, Texas stayed in-state and snagged Texas Tech third baseman Josh Jung. Beltre's retired and Asdrubal Cabrera is just a short-term plug-in so there aren't any major roadblocks to Jung's path to the bigs other than his own talent and development. The Rangers went with another Texas college talent with their competitive balance pick, 41st overall, in Baylor 3B Davis Wendzel. It seems the club has identified a priority.

if the MLB wants to speed up games, begin with calling strikes strikes

Angel Hernandez is a problem unto itself. Using him as an example of MLB's problems as a whole is like using Chris Davis' numbers to explain the O's futility. Get rid of either of man & the issues are still there.

Nice job by the Rockies bullpen last night.

7IP, 18H, 15R all earned, came in w/a 4-1 lead. Went into the 9th up 11-5. Lost 16-12 in 12 innings.

Regarding the Edwin Encarnacion trade, when was the last time a guy with 20 or more HRs was traded before the all star break?
