Making his 3rd title defense last month, Liam Smith headed to Belgium to face Sheldon Moore.

In a fight Liam controlled, not much happened until the 10th when a hard right cross from Moore sent Liam to the ropes but a hard counter punch uppercut ended the fight @ 1:50 of the round. Another impressive win by Liam after a 1st round blowout KO win @ 1:47 of Larry Ekundayo back in May.

Liam was up 88-83 & 90-81 twice.

Making his 1st defense after shocking Kovalev to take the belt earlier this year, Sullivan Barrera faced Thomas Oosthuizen - the unbeaten current WBC SMW champ making his debut @ 175.

In one hell of a fight, TO showed the true heart & grit of a champ in the 15th when he went after the champ in what we all knew was a close fight. A TO right hook dropped Barrera & he just kept punching until the ref stepped in at 2:41 of the round.

Barrera was up on all 3 cards: 134-132 & 133-132, twice.

TO had the PL edge - 326 (34%) to 275 (21%).

WBC JWW title

Julius Indongo got another crack at this title after losing it to Ray Mancini in May due to a cut.

Ray was stopped by Ugas in the 4th in his 1st defense in July & rather than defend his title, Ugas moved to 147.

With the title vacant, Julius got another shot against the unbeaten Viktor Postol. In the opening seconds, Julius dropped VP with a quick, brutal combo. Unlike Troyanovsky in real life, Viktor got up. He probably should have stayed down as Julius basically beat him up for the rest of the fight, knocking him down a total of 5 times - the final one in the 15th another combo ending it 32 seconds into the round.

Indongo was up 138-125 & 136-127 twice. He also out punched VP - 408 (32%) to 271 (20%).

I used the 7 rated VP & planned to use the 8 rated Indongo but used his 5 rating by accident - it made no difference as he took apart VP in front of his people in the Ukraine.

Forgot to add that Julius seems to have a flair for the dramatic when he wins these titles, he 1st won the WBC belt last year with a 14th round TKO of Humberto Soto so he definitely takes his power late into fights.

WBA JWW title

Making his 2nd title defense, John Molina went to the Dominican Republic to face Juan Carlos Abreu.

Back in March, Juan had given IBF champ, Ricky Burns, all he wanted & more with Burns retaining his title via a split decision.

Nothing close about this bout as Molina worked over Juan, dropped him with a huge cross for a 9 count as the ref stepped in at 2:57 of the 1st.

Molina's now 9-0 (6 KO's) @ 140.

Changing of the guard

Attempting to make the 9th defense of his WBO MW belt, Anthony Mundine welcomed former IBO champ, Grzegorz Proksa down under to Australia.

In a fight that appeared evenly matched on paper, Proksa made The Man look like the Old Man. In the 3rd a Mundine miss was countered by speed & power as the Pole dropped the champ with a combo.

In the 5th Mundine pressed the action & appeared to have GP in trouble but another combo dropped Mundine once again.

In the 10th, a right hook dropped Mundine once more & then a huge left cross ended the fight @ 2:49 of the round.

Proksa was up 231 (23%) to 156 (21%) in PL & up 88-83 & 87-83 twice on the cards for the impressive & dominating win. He's 9 years younger than Mundine who may be done as a major player @ 160 after that beating he took.

Proksa now 15-1 (13 KO's) & Mundine 19-2 (16 KO's).

Proksa's only loss is due to a 13th round DQ.

WBA CW title

France's Steve Herelius has made a strong late year push for fighter of the year honors.

In Sept, he thoroughly outboxed new WBO HW champ (Lucas Browne) to take that belt via a UD.

Now dropping back down to his more natural weight class, he met new WBA CW champ - Alexander Frenkel in Monte Carlo.

A crushing R-hook came out of nowhere ended Frenkel's brief reign & made Steve an even bigger star in France.

Steve's now 9-2-1 (9 KO's) @ CW & Frenkel suffers his 1st defeat - 11-1, 8 KO's.

Forgot to include the fact Frenkel beat Dorticos by UD, dropping the huge punching Cuban 4 times to get the decision & win the vacant WBA belt.

In his 1st defense, Alexander gets KO'd by a single punch by the elder Frenchman in the 3rd round.

WBA SMW title

In a battle between 2 elite SMW,'s, former IBF champ, Andre Dirrell, came to the UK to take the belt in decisive fashion by knocking out long time champ - George Groves with a vicious right hook @ 2:48 of the 7th.

Groves had been blowing through people of late, making his 12th title defense, it was hoped Andre would provide some sort of challenge to the Brit world champ - he did that & more.

The cards reflect how close the fight was 57-57, 56-58, 58-56 @ the time of the stoppage. It was back & forth but in the 3rd & 4th it felt like Andre started to take control with his speed & awkward style.

Then in the 6th, an uppercut dropped Groves for an 8 count. Andre knew GG was still hurt & came after the champ in the 7th & finished Groves in that round.

Andre landed 209 punches (46%) to Groves 145 - 25%.

AD is now 24-2 (14 KO's) - he lost the IBF belt to Zeuge due to 13th round DQ & years ago lost to Tommy Hearns by decision.

Groves is now 24-1 with 20 KO's.

WBC SMW title

Anthony Dirrell joined his brother Andre (WBA champ) on top at 168 with a 9th round (short right cross) KO of the rugged Ronald Gavril.

AD takes his belt back after losing it years ago to Thomas Oosthuizen by 8th round TKO. TO recently moved up to 175 to take a belt there so the WBC vacated their title. AD had won 4 fights since losing his belt the 1st time. Ronald actually dropped AD in the 4th with a hook for a 5 count but Dirrell battled back - dropping RG twice in following rounds before ending matters in the 9th.

Anthony is now 14-1 with 13 KO's.

WBC JMW belt

2 old vets met for the interim belt - Antonio Margarito vs. Erislandy Lara.

I thought the 2 might take a few rounds to probe for weaknesses - nope! They went right after each other, back & forth, it was like Hagler/Hearns!

By the end of round one, Antonio's left eye had already started to swell.

So Antonio came looking for the KO in the 2nd & a huge right uppercut dropped Lara for an 8 count. A still buzzed Lara tried to fight on but the Mexican cornered him & kept punching until the ref stepped in at 2:30 of the round.

Margarito is now 16-3 (14 KO's) & Lara suffers his 1st defeat, 20-1 with 17 KO's.

There's only one Conor McGregor!

On his 3rd attempt, Conor finally did it winning the interim WBC JMW title with a 12 UD over Asinia Byfield - 116-113 & 115-113 twice. Back in December of 2017, Conor had a draw with Marcello Matano - the WBC champ at the time.

These 2 had met earlier this year when the fight was stopped in the 6th round due to a cut over Conor's right eye. Asinia agreed to give Conor an immediate (and lucrative) rematch rather than face Margarito - the WBC mandatory challenger. Antonio then stopped Lara in 2 rounds & was recently promoted to full champ by the WBC.

The jubilant Conor said: "Who's Margarito? I never heard of him!" when he was asked if he planned to fight the fearsome Mexican next?

Conor won the PL battle too: 292 (31%) to 287 (29%).

WBO WW title

Greg Haugen making his 1st title defense, took on relative unknown - David Grayton.

David got the shot due to the fact it appeared to be a competitive fight & since he gained some fame for being in the July video with Shakur beating someone up.

And wow what a 1 sided beating for a 2 vs. a 3 in boxer ratings.

David beat Greg up for basically the entire fight until it was stopped at 1:42 of the 13th after Haugen hit the deck for the 3rd time in the round - a total of 10 total! It really looked like the game took into account their 27 year age difference.

Judges cards: 120-101 & 119-102 twice.

David hopes for a title unification later his summer.

IBO HW shocker!

Former WBO HW champ, Steve Cunningham, received another title shot in the twilight of his career vs. the fearsome Russian Alexander Povetkin - making his 2nd title defense.

It just appeared to be a keep busy fight for the Russian who looked to be in control most of the fight. In the 8th Steve decided to take chances going after AP only to be dropped for a 3 count from an overhand right.

In the 9th, Steve came out gunning again but this time a hard combo dropped the champ for a count of 6. With time running out in the round, Steve kept up the pressure & kept punching until the ref stepped in after a hard hook landed @ 2:58 of the round.

AP was up 79-73 & 79-72 twice on the cards - the PL were dead even @ 223 each but Steve's accuracy was incredible @ 92% compared to 27% for AP.

Steve's now 10-1 @ HW & AP drops to 7-2.

Added note - AP's 1st defense was vs. Deontay Wilder & AP won a UD in his 1st defense - so he lasted 15 rounds against the murderous puncher in Deontay but got careless/caught by Cunningham.

WBC MW title

Making his 1st defense, Danny Jacobs drew the unbeaten Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez. Going in, it looked like a pretty even fight on paper but that's not how things played out in the ring. GRS appeared to be too strong & good for Danny just basically out punching him round after round until the 11th when a tiring Jacobs was caught with a vicious combo & knocked out 0:47 seconds into the round.

GRS is now 13-0, all KO's & Danny's 26-3-1 (19 KO's), it's the 2nd time he lost by KO to a big punching lefty - Jesus Gonzalez being his 1st KO loss.

GRS lead PL 262 to 201 & 46% to 23% in accuracy.

All 3 judges had the fight for GRS - 99-90, 98-91 & 96-93.

From August:

WBC Int Super Welter champ Conor McGregor made the 2nd defense of his title with a 1 punch hook KO of the unbeaten Joshua Warf. The end coming @ 2:04 of the 5th.

Conor was gracious enough to give Warf a rematch after their 1st fight ended in a technical draw due to a cut to Conor.

Conor's now 2-1-2 with 1 KO & said after the fight: "I make this look easy! Is there anything I can't do?"

UK vs. US

In a big night of boxing from England, we had 3 world title fights with boxers from both the UK & the US.

Up 1st, Anthony Dirrell made the 1st defense of his WBC SMW belt with a 9th round TKO of Rocky Fielding.

Rocky looked like the movie version of his name with a red & almost swollen shut right eye. AD won the PL battle 206 (30%) to 148 (30%).

AD was up on the cards 78-74 & 77-75 twice at the end and moves to 15-1.

-----------------------------------------------

Errol Spence won the vacant IBF WW title with a 6 UD over the rugged Brit - Peter Waterman. Spence dropped Peter in the 3rd for a count of 9 after a vicious combo.

An accidental butt lead to a cut on Peter & Spence was up 57-56 & 58-55 twice at the end - Spence also had a 200 to 99 lead in PL.

Spence moves to 14-1-1 (12 KO's) - his lone loss earlier this year due to a cut. Peter is now 8-1 (8 KO's).
------------------------------------------------

And in a great fight, Shawn Porter won the vacant WBC WW title with a 15MD over Amir Khan.

Shawn dropped Khan twice in the fight - both right crosses & Khan sent Porter the the canvas once in the 13th with a combo.

The cards read 143-140, 142-141 & 141-141 @ the end.

Khan won the PL battle - 318 to 251.

Porter is now 12-1 (11 KOs) - his lone loss to Thomas Damgaard due to a cut in his 1st shot at a world title.

Khan is now 8-1 (8 KO's) @ 147.

WBC CW title

Tony Bellew came to Italy hoping a fight versus Fabio Turchi would be an easier tuneup in his 2nd title defense before bigger fights in 2020.

Fabio did his best to ruin those plans dropping Tony twice in the 1st 10 rounds before an almost desperate champ fought back & knocked out the tough Italian at 2:45 of the 11th with an uppercut.

Fabio was up on all 3 cards: 97-91, 96-92 & 97-93 & also had the PL edge: 252 (37%) to 235 (22%).

With the win Bellew improves to 11-0 (all KO's) @ CW.

The KC Effect

Jermell Charlo came to England for a 2nd time to defend his IBO JMW belt - this time against Ted Cheeseman.

In quite a boxing display, Charlo landed 504 punches (48%) to 156 (11%) for Ted to win a UD - 145-140 & 146-139 twice.

Charlo swelled up Ted's face so badly, one eye was red & one yellow - hence the KC Effect in honor of the colors of the Chiefs.

Charlo now moves to 13-1.
