Giancarlo Stanton vs. J.D Martinez: Who is the best right fielder in baseball?
Let me know what you think. IMO I think Stanton is a little better, but Martinez has been tearing it up this year as well.

I don't even see how Martinez is in the question. Also, Stanton is a LOT better.
Bryce Harper? I can think of a bunch of guys I'd rather have than J.D. |

If you wanted to bring Bryce Harper into the discussion:

so you're just defining 'best' right fielder on offensive production only? What about defense? Might be others who don't hit as hard/as many HRs, but take away more hits/runs with their glove/arm to make them as valuable (if not more so).

Baseball is a game of runs, and perhaps the best defensive statistic is Defensive Runs Saved (DRS). |

I'm curious what exit velocity tells us about being a good RF.

Let me know what you all think and whether I have a valid argument on who is better, Stanton or Martinez?

Giancarlo Stanton vs. J.D Martinez: Who is the best right fielder in baseball?
This is just used as an offensive statistic, nothing to do with fielding. Just an offensive measure of production. Last edited by Dkelley; 07-12-2015 at 10:01 AM. |

What new information does it tell us about offensive production that we don't already know through several other advanced stats.

Hey, you can take JD. I mean, I'd rather have Jason Heyward than JD.
Are you just looking at 2015? Defense matters. A lot. I'll agree JD Martinez is a better DH than, say, Billy Butler. If your question is who is having a better offensive ten games, or who is having a better offensive season, then that is way different than who is the best RF in baseball. Anyway, I don't think judging the "best RF in baseball" is possible at all with the metrics (I hate that word and sabremetrics in general) you're using, and is exponentially less possible using only half a season too...with said half season being the career super best shiny happy year of JD's offensive life by the way. Anyway, JD is having a great offensive year. I'd just personally rather have quite a few others if I were picking. Heck, if you make it outfielders, there are probably 20 - 30 more I'd rather have. |

I'll take Giancarlo Stanton please. Though I must admit Bryce Harper is charging hard based on this season, but over the last three, Stanton is my guy. Jason Heyward and Jose Bautista have been pretty damn good too. J.D. Martinez has a helluva lot of catching up to do to put it mildly. He's not even remotely in the picture yet. His defense will always be his undoing, unless he really starts to pick it up.
