OOTP 14 Update, Version 14.6.33 available! (Update 11/23: Mac & Linux Versions available) - Page 6

I also have a Mac, and cannot get past the opening menu. This game has really soured me the second half of the year. Got hooked on 13, couldn't wait for 14, then loved this version. However, this is the second time an update has come out and has completely ruined my faith in the game. The game had ran just fine through the summer, then the release in the fall and winter have made the game unplayable. Wanted to sit down on a cold Saturday in New York and play for the first time in some time. Have spent 45 minutes just tying to get past the menu.

I wish I had read ahead in the forum to realize the latest update makes it worse.

Are there any solutions out there?

I found the easiest solution, went back into time machine and used an older version.

This may be a shot in the dark, but disable your internet access and see if the game works. I'm on a Mac (updated to OS Mavericks) and the game is only slow for me when I'm downloading podcasts on iTunes to listen to while I play or when I'm opening a web page that's slow. Otherwise, the game works beautifully.
