Advances in medicine
One thing i would like to see in this hockey game, and in ootp as well, is an injury file that reflected the changing ability of medicine to deal with injuries.
I find it odd in ootp when a player in 1904 for example undergoes Tommy John surgery or has his knee scoped decades before either procedure was created. I would prefer it if injuries and their outcomes reflected what was current in the state of medicine in that day rather than having anachronistic events occur. It would most likely mean swifter ends to careers but it would add a greater sense of reality to the game. After all, Howie Morenz died of complications following a broken leg - something that simply would not happen in today's medical system (though he probably would still have ended his career). |

I'm a fan of this idea. It reminds me of back in Sim City 2000 the way certain technology (nuclear plants, desalination, etc.) weren't available until you hit around certain dates. If you started in 1900, you had much less technology to work with than if you started in 2000.

It would, of course, be better to have a single dynamic file that accurately reflected historical medical progress. That sort of change has been promised for the OOTP world_default.xml file, but I have a feeling that's not a near-term project. |
