Who gets a World Series ring next to their name?

In 1991 Kenny Rogers started the year for me in the majors and had a 15-16 month injury on may 1st. He got a ring next to his name.

The same year Chris Sabo spent most (not all) of the year in the minors and started the LCS round off the roster, but with two injuries he ended up on the World Series roster and appeared in the Series. No ring next to his name or championship listing in his history.

Based on this, it seems to depend on how long you were on the ML roster. Not the playoff roster. ML DL time if I'm not mistaken counts as ML time, so I presume it's something to do with ML service time.

I honestly think all players who appeared should get it, as that is who gets actual World Series rings in real life. Bengie Molina was on the Rangers in 2010 who lost to the Giants in the World Series, but got a ring because he was the starting catcher for the Giants before Posey came up and he got traded.

Thanks for listening, I was merely curious how the game decides who gets one and who doesn't.

Near as I can tell, what it really is, is when you "Finish" the day the championship was won and whichever players are on the active roster, they get that symbol next to their name. I caught this because I noticed a lot of September call-ups who weren't a part of their team kept getting that symbol. I would manually send down anyone I didn't feel should have the symbol next to their name and then 'Finished' the day. That worked perfectly.

If you have reserve rosters instead of minors, those guys get a ring, too.

It's one of the (minor) downsides of using reserve rosters. I wish there was a workaround.

IRL, they literally give out hundreds of rings. Even broadcasters, locker room staff and grounds keepers get rings. Uggla (2015) was in 4 July games (made 2 errors) and got a ring. Last time Boston was there, a Bosox guy pitched to 1 batter in August and got a ring. I'd probably give a ring to every player who was on the 40-man roster at any point from Opening Day to the last game of the WS.
