10/11/1976 - Reds on to World Series

The Cincinnati Reds triumphed 2-0 over the New York Mets at Shea Stadium in the League Championship Series to capture it 3-1.

The victory advanced the Reds to the World Series.

For his superb play in the series, Reds second baseman Joe L Morgan garnered the series MVP trophy, hitting .412, scoring 3 runs and batting in 2.

"Only thing better than getting MVP for winning in the playoffs would be winning MVP for winning in the World Series," Morgan said later. "I'll get to work on that."

The Cincinnati Reds don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the New York Yankees - Kansas City Royals series. Kansas City leads the series 2 game to 1. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.

Kong again goes 0-4, bats .176 for the series with a 1 HR and 3 RBI. The latter two led the team.

1976 Finale - .250/.313/.507 45 HR 128 RBI

Big Dave kept pretty steady throughout the year and posted his best season yet:

Very comparable to his IRL 1976 season with the benefit of another 40 games played:

He also led both leagues in HR and RBI. Gorman Thomas was keeping pace with him in the homer department until getting hurt.

Now we'll see if he gets screwed in the awards department again...

1976 Final Cont'd

Here is how the entire playoffs looked:

Really close approximation, actually. The Reds did win it all IRL, and virtual Dave's Met's replaced the second place Phillies. The Yankees and Royals just basically traded swapped places in a close series.

All green here:

1976 Final Cont'd

Kong added to his replay totals with +8 HR and +42 RBI over IRL this season.

Here is a Replay / IRL comparison at this point in both career:

Everyday 1B Replay: 190 HR / 541 RBI
In Real Life No Pos: 150 HR / 391 RBI

So 40 homers and 150 RBI's ahead of his IRL stats at this point.

Well now on to 1977, where Dave played for 4 different teams in all the existing divisions at the time. This should be fun.
