Perfect Speciman
In The Perfect Specimen (1937) Gerald Beresford Wicks was played by Errol Flynn. I was always a big fan of Errol Flynn and swashbucklers, but this is one of his films I've never seen. If anybody can identify the actor or character that was his ring opponent in this film I'd welcome the information.
Gerald Beresford Wicks HW boxer 3 Bear Coming attractions: Next up will be Raging Bull and Golden Boy in both film, Broadway musical, and original theatre production. Last edited by bear; 05-18-2006 at 12:55 PM. |

Yeah. I plan to. Got notes prepared and at least one pic. It was a good film treatment of a fine novel. Bear Quote:

five boxers from W.C. Heinz's book The Professional.
Austin sent me the following message. I'm posting his five fighters for him.
Eddie Brown Boxer MW 11 Vic Cardone WW 1 Vince De Corso MW 1 Memphis Kid MW 9 Paul Schaeffer HW 1 He tried to create Cardone as a 2 but the game changed him to a 1. I changed their status to retired. Thanks for the input Austin. Bear Hi Bear, I like your thread and tried to add to it. However my computer keeps saying my pop-up menu was blocked. Every time I tried to move my cursor to the pop-up message it would disappear. The attachment includes five boxers from W.C. Heinz's book The Professional. I tried to highlight the five boxers but my computer would not allow it. I had to go back 5 times to get all the fighters. Also I was unable to add ;book after the word Fictional under group. I used discriptions from the book under biography. Let me know what you think, as I think your thread is a great idea. If you like them maybe you could add them to the thread as my computer will not allow it. Your friend from IBRO, Austin Last edited by bear; 05-18-2006 at 08:04 PM. |

I'll send them to CW in batches. Right now I'm working on some more. When I get a good enough sized group I'll separate the pics and tbdx files into folders and zip them up for CW.

Golden Boy
Clifford Odets play, Golden Boy, debuted at the Belasco Theatre 11/4/1937. Although Odets had John Garfield in mind for the role of Joe Bonaparte the Group Theatre production cast Luther Adler in the role.
In 1939 a film version was released. Garfield's studio didn't release him to pursue the role. The, then, unknown Bill Holden took the role instead and was launched into stardom. Garfield finally got a shot at the role in 1952 shortly before his death in a revival of the play. In the 60's it was rewritten as a musical starring Sammy Davis Jr. as Joe Wellington. For the Adler version here is: Young Joe Bonaparte LW B6 Bear |

Don't forget Honey Roy Palmer! He should have good endurance, high intellect, recovery, and endurance, since he fought 10 guys in only 12 hours. I was gonna put him in my universe- maybe an overall rating around 7 or so (since he is 48years old in the movie I think).
