1957 Baseball Photo Custom Set
I am interested in contacting fellow collectors who design their own custom cards. I've enclosed a photo of my designs. The photos were downloaded from 'eBay' search's and 'google' search's. I will not post my designs publicly due to copyright rules. I've begun my 1957 customs set. My goal is to have 25-players for each team in 1957. Your comments are welcome. Regards, 'luvbblogos'.

Don Hasenmayer, Only Phillies Player Active in Major leagues before end of WWII Passes Away
Don Hasenmayer, a third baseman and utility infielder, who played for the Phillies in 1945 and 1946, his only major league years, passed away early in February. He was 92. Hasenmayer was the last living Phillies player who played for the Phillies before the end of World War Two. He debuted in the major leagues on May 2, 1945, six days before the War in Europe ended and four months before the war in the Pacific drew to a close. In between his time in the big leagues in May of 1945 and September of 1946, Hasenmayer served in the military and spent a brief time in the minor leagues after his military discharge, before being recalled to the major leagues by the Phillies as the 1946 season wound down. Hasenmayer remained in organized ball, playing in the in the minor leagues until the early 1950s, but he never got a chance AT A THIRD SEASON in the big leagues. In his two stints with he Phillies he totaled just 30 major league at-bats. HE WAS A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF Suburban Philadelphia. He was two months short of his 93rd birthday at the time of his passing.

Gil Coan, 3rd oldest living major leaguer passes away at age 97
The third oldest living major leaguer, Gil Coan passed away recently at the age of 97. Outside of his baseball travels, Coan was a lifelong North Carolina resident.
He was a solid, if unspectacular, rank and file major leaguer, who enjoyed a career of 918 games in 10 1/2 YEARS IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES (1946-1956) as a lefthanded hitting, righthanded throwing outfielder. COAN SPENT THE FIRST EIGHT YEARS OF HIS TIME IN THE MAJORS (through1953) WITH THE WASHINGTON SENATORS. Coan's peak years were 1950 and 1951, when he hit .303 both years. 1951, was statistically the better overall of these two years and we can speculate that he didn't miss making the American League all-star team by much that year.He was a slap hitter, who never hit more than 9 home runs in a season. Some poor years offset his peak ones as he finished with a lifetime batting average of .254. In 1954 and 1955 he moved on to three teams, the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White sox and New York Giants. He played in the first major league game I ever saw as a child in person with the 1955 Giants at the old Polo Grounds. Coan's major leagues career came to an end after he was released by the Giants a few weeks into the 1956 season. |

Roman 'Ray' Semproch, 89 reaches 100 oldestmajor leaguers
Roman Semproch, nicknamed 'Ray' had his 89th birthday on January 7 and he has been added to the 100 oldest living major leaguers list of Wikipedia. His current rank is #98.
Semproch went from an unknown pitching prospect in his late 20s with no prior major league experience, to the #2 spot in the Phillies rotation in a matter of months. The righthander went 13-11 for the last-place Phillies in 1958, outperforming all other Phillies starters, except the great, Robin Roberts, who went 17-14 that year. Semproch faded in the final two months, but he was 12-6 at the end of July and might have narrowly missed being selected to that year's National League all-star team. Semproch's 1957 performance of going 12-4 with a 2.78 earned run average for AAA Miami of the International League, showed some promise that his peak years were ahead of him. After 1958, Injuries prevented him from reaching his potential and he wound up playing in the big leagues for only four years. His final stop in the majors was with the expansion, inaugural 1961 Los Angeles Angels club. Image sources: Topps baseball cards: (left - 1958; right - 1959). |
