Hopefully we have a good west coast trip to give us a good feeling going into the all star break. We will get otis nixon back in two days. I have been carrying an extra reliever and will more than likely send Slocumb or Borland Down even though both have been throwing well. I've made deals with Baltimore and pittsburgh who are non contenders to add minor league depth. I don't feel i need to make any major moves right now but anything goes in these next few weeks leading up to the trade deadline!

All Star game American League Wins 6-4

Unfortunately non of my All Stars get into the game but having a 3 day break dosen't hurt us either.

Time for the 2nd half of the season.

I gotta address the Back end of the rotation. I need Roger Clemens to be consistent. Need more speed in the 2nd spot in lineup. Bullpen has been ok. I have 3 relievers I can trust. Now I need 2 more to step up for us to have any chance to go far in the playoffs!

July 19th SF L 3-1
July 20th SF L 8-5
July 22nd SD W 9-2
July 23rd SD L 5-4
July 24th SD L 6-4

July 13th I make a decision with Ben Rivera and move him to the SF giants for AAA starter Solomon Torres and Minor League catcher Juan Rubio. I call up RHP Bobby Munoz to take Ben Riveras place.

July 14th Before the game Mariano Duncan and Doug Jones agree to one year extensions on their contract.

Looking to get off to a good start in the 2nd half I start Roger Clemens. He pitches well going 6 innings giving up 2 runs striking out 10 however the offense leaves 17 men on base. Kruk his 10th homer of the year.

July 15th After falling behind 3-0 we manage to catch up to the dodgers in the 8th on a 2 run double by kevin stocker. Schilling gives up 11 hits over 7 but manages to keep us in the game. We lose the battle of the bullpens when David west gives up 3 runs in the top of the 12th. Matt Manteni RHP gets injured with a ruptured disk in his back and will be out till next year. I call up RHP Joe Borowski from AAA to replace him.

July 16th We manage to jump out to a 6-0 lead after 7 innings. Danny Jackson pitches 7 shutout innings for win number 7. Larry Andersen and D Jones give up 5 runs to make this easy game hairy.

July 17th Jim haley pitches 7 shutout innings for his 4th win of the year. Eisey hits 2 homers and drives in 4. Kruk foes 3 for 5 with 3 rbis.

July 18th I make a trade with the Marlins Swapping Beneard Gilkey and Heathcliff slocumb for Gary Redus.

July 18th We are able to hang with the giants till the 7th. Darren Daulton hits a 2 run homer off fromer philly Ben Rivera in the 1st inning. Bobby Munoz dosen't fare well going 4 innings giving up 4 runs. Giants score 5 runs in the top of the 7th 4 of them off Authur Rhodes who takes the loss. Philly killer Barry Bonds goes 4 for 6 with 3 rbi's against us.

July 19th Another Solid Start by R Clemens as he goes 7 innings giving up 3 runs however he takes his 6th loss of the year.

July 20th We get swept by the giants who nail us with a 5 run 6th. Billy Swift his a Grand Slam Home of Schilling to seal our fate. Gary Redus and Kruk homer.

July 21st After falling behind 2-0 the offense scores 9 unanswered runs to back Danny Jacksons 8th win of the year. Mickey Mo hits 2 homers and knocks in 6 to lead the way.

July 22nd 4 errors by the phillies defense doom us. Jim haley gives up 4 runs(1 earned) over 7 and gets his 2nd loss. We pound out 11 hits but leave 14 men on base

July 23rd Bobby Munoz has a short start only going 2 innings giving up 4 runs. We fall behind 6-2 after 3. Hollins hits his 11th homer of the year and Wes Chamberlin hits a pinch homer his 3rd but its not enough.

July 26th Another opposing starter hits a grand slam off us. This time its Ryan Bowen connecting off of Ricky Bottalico in the 3rd inning. Schilling has another shaky start going only 2 innings.

July 27th Danny Jackson gives the bullpen a much needed breather going 7 2/3 and managers to keep the opposing pitcher from hitting a grand slam off of us but its not enough.

EOM for July 10 W 16 L

Sweeps from the Giants and Marlins contribute to our 1st losing month of the year. Our record drops to 54-52 and we are now in second place 1/2 game behind the mets who are 54-51. Arthur Rhodes, Ricky Bo and Joe Borowski have shown me they can be effective.

3 games in St Louis

8/12 @ Stl L 5-4
8/13 @ Stl W 4-2(11)
8/14 @ Stl W4-1

We go into St Louis for a quick 3 game road trip. Greg Jefferies is batting 387 for the year. Hopefully we can slow him down some.

8/12 Curt Schilling battles through 5 giving up for runs. We are down 4-0 after 5. In the 6th we tie it up thanks to a Bases loaded double by Mickey Morandini but give the cardinals take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Greg Jefferies goes 0 for 4

8/13 Another solid start by D Jack going 7 innings giving up 2 runs but another no decision. We manage to score 2 runs off Troy Percival in the top of the 11th to win it. Authur Rhodes loads up the bases in the bottom of the inning but gets Luis Alicea to ground into a force out to end the game for his 2nd save. Greg Jefferies goes 1 for 5.

8/14 Jim Haley has a nice bounce back outing pitching 8 solid innings giving up 1 run to earn his 6th win. Darren Daulton hits his 23rd homer of the year. Doug Jones gets his 27th save.

3 games at home vs Cin

8/16 Cin L 9-5
8/17 Cin L 6-4(12)
8/18 Cin W 7-2

8/16 Roger Clemens agrees to a 2 year Contract extension worth 12.4 million dollars. As up and down as he has been this gave me an opportunity to sign him to a team friendly deal. Now i need him to be more consistent

Mike Williams gives up 7 runs and dosen't get out of the 2nd inning and we are down 5-0. Kevin Stocker hits a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 2nd as we try to comeback. The bullpen does a good job allowing just two runs but its not enough.

8/17 Well Roger Clemens dose not earn his extension tonight giving up 4 runs in 5 innings. We manage to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th as the bullpen does another fantastic job. Reds score 2 in the top of the 12th to win it.

8/18 Curt Schilling gives me 7 2/3 solid innings to collect win number 13. Dave hollins goes 4 for 4 scoring 2 runs. Daulton connects for a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 1st off pete schoureck. Mariano Duncan continues to fill in brilliantly for Gary Redus going 2 for 3.

8/21 @ Col L 5-3
8/22 @ Cin L 5-1
8/23 @ Cin W 5-1
8/24 @ Cin W 4-1

We head out west to where we started the season. We need to have a winning road trip to keep the 2nd place mets at bay.

8/19 A very solid start to the trip as D Jack pitches 7 strong innings giving up 1 run. Kruk goes 4 for 4 hitting his 13th homer of the year a 3 run blast in the 3rd inning to give us a 7-0 lead.. David West collects his 3rd save of the year.

8/20 Jim Haley struggles with the thin air giving up 4 runs and 3 innings. We are down 6-2 after 7 until the offense explodes in the 8th scoring 5 runs. Ricky Jordan caps off the big inning with a 2 run pinch double. Doug Jones pitches a perfect 9th for his 28th save.

8/21 Mike Williams battles through 5 1/3 innings however he gets the loss. Mariano Duncan has 4 hits.

8/22 Roger Clemens pitches well going 7 giving up just 2 runs but gets out pitched by John Smiley. Daulton hits his 25th homer of the year.

8/23 Curt Schil collects his 14th win of the year giving up just 1 run in 6 2/3 innings. He helps his own cause with an rbi triple in the 2nd inning. Every Starter except Wes Chamberlin had at least 1 hit.

8/24 Danny Jack pitches 8 solid innings to pick up win number 11. His only blemish was Kevin Mitchells solo homer in the 1st. We hit 2 homers of our own, Hollins his 14th and Chamberlin his 5th. Doug Jones pitches a 1-2-3 9th for his 29th save.

3 homes games Vs Chi

Here is an opportunity to pick up a couple of wins against the worst team in baseball before we go on the road to play the best team in baseball(astros)

9/2 Chi W 4-2
9/3 Chi W 2-1
9/4 Chi W 9-4

9/2 Mike Williams makes a strong case on why he should be the 5th starter next year pitching 6 innings giving up just the 1 run to get his 1st win. Eisey goes 2 for 3 hitting a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 4th. Doug Jones picks up his 31st save.

9/3 Roger Clemenes continues his strong pitching going 8 innings giving up 1 run while striking out 10 to win his 6th game. Gary Redus collects 2 more Stolen bases and is up to 50 for the year. Doug Jones strikes out the side for his 32nd save.

9/4 Curt Schilling didn't have it tonight giving up 4 runs in 5 innings. However a pair of 3 run home runs by Gary Redus and Javier Rodriguez bail him out. 5 stolen bases doesn't hurt our cause either!
