1948 Hall of Fame
Rex Tildon, CF Tildon was a great CF for a majority of his career until he turned 33. Instead of becoming a corner outfielder or DH, he was stuck at CF and became a replacement level player. He was originally drafted by the Phillies with the 12th overall pick out of Vanderbilt in 1934 and won the MVP in 1941, two gold gloves, three silver sluggers, and 3 all-stars. Career Stats: 7626 PA, 2009 H, 80 HR, 116 SB, .338 wOBA, 110 wRC+, 86 ZR, 45.9 WAR, 40.6 JAWS Elliot Raprap, 1B Raprap is originally from Ni-Vanuata - the second MLB player from the nation, behind SS Nelson Avock, who debuted in 1906. He attended high school in Albuquerque, NM at Volcano Vista High School where he was the player of the year three of his four years. In the majors, he went to four all-star games, won three gold gloves as a former CF playing 1B, won four silver sluggers, and two World Series rings with the Expos. He becomes only the second primary first baseman to enter the Hall of Fame behind legendary Royal Aiden Massicotte. Career Stats: 12197 PA, 2710 H, 222 HR, 192 SB, .354 wOBA, 120 wRC+, -37.6 ZR, 52 WAR, 39.6 JAWS Vernon Conner, 3B Conner is the best third baseman not in the Hall of Fame and that decision is based on his very short career which ended when he turned 34. He did have a very high peak after becoming a 5th overall draft pick out of Virginia, culminating in the 1939 AL Tomas Reed MVP award. He also went to two all-star games, won a gold glove, three silver sluggers, and a World Series. Career Stats: 7243 PA, 1894 H, 146 HR, .354 wOBA, 117 wRC+, 1.4 ZR, 41.9 WAR, 38.4 JAWS Felix McElroy, RHP McElroy was very steady for a decade with a solid peak with a maximum WAR of 6.1 in 1941. He went to three all-star games over his career and last played at age 34. McElroy was originally a 2nd overall draft pick out of Ohio State. Career Stats: 3324.3 IP, 1133 BB, 1292 K, 3.70 FIP, 96 FIP-, 49.8 WAR, 44.8 JAWS Fred Westbrook, 1B Westbrook had a legendary year in 1938 when he had back-to-back hitting streaks of 33 and 34 games. Neither were MLB records at the time, but together a 60+game streak would have blown out the record at the time - 37 games by Arnold White. It would also have easily stood up to the test of time as the current record is only 38 games by Courtnay O'Donnell in 1943. Westbrook was drafted 13th overall out of Michigan and went to three all-star games, won five silver sluggers, and won two World Series with the Devil Rays in 1935 and 1936. He was both the League Championship and World Series MVP in 1936. Career Stats: 8976 PA, 2452 H, 184 HR, .364 wOBA, 126 wRC+, -11.7 ZR, 41.3 WAR, 35.3 JAWS Adam Fisher, 3B Fisher is another borderline 3B candidate similar to Conner but for somewhat the opposite reason. He was a solid contributor in the majors into his age 40 season but never had the high peak needed, sitting between 2-4 WAR for most of his career. Fisher won 5 gold gloves and did make an all-star game. He was an integral part of the Mets 1939 World Series championship and claimed the MVP award for the Fall Classic. Career Stats: 8951 PA, 2303 H, 128 HR, .329 wOBA, 103 wRC+, 79.6 ZR, 44 WAR, 34.1 JAWS |

1949 Top 100 Prospects
Parker Whitaker is again the top overall prospect, despite a very probable career as a reliever. He will be starting the season at the back end of the Orioles bullpen and doesn't look to have the pitches necessary for a starting repertoire. The top hitter is 1B Noah Sylvain, the top draftee in 1946. |

1949 Hall of Fame
Bonk Maurello, C
Maurello is another example of the low threshold of catching talent in the majors. He had 9 very good MLB seasons of mostly 3-4 WAR value at catcher and is a borderline HOF candidate. He won one gold glove, went to two all-star games, and was a three-time silver slugger. Maurello was originally drafted with the 20th overall pick in 1935 out of Hobbs High School and retired at the age of 32. Career Stats: 4948 PA, 1224 H, 58 HR, .322 wOBA, 103 wRC+, -3.8 ZR, 26.6 WAR, 25.4 JAWS Michal Delaney, CF Delaney had a good long career as an above-average CF and was also drafted out of a New Mexico High School. He was taken in the 2nd round of the 1929 draft by the White Sox and spent a few years on the team before signing with the Padres. Delaney won one gold glove and made 6 all-star games throughout his career. Career Stats: 6592 PA, 1624 H, 44 HR, 243 SB, .318 wOBA, 96 wRC+, 166.1 ZR, 39.8 WAR, 33.9 JAWS Gavin Thornton, LHP Thornton was another high school pick but was drafted much later than the other two on this list - a 10th round gem. He went to two all-star games in his career and was on the 1946 Florida Marlins championship team. In 1945, Thornton took second in the Pitcher of the Year voting. Career Stats: 2172.3 IP, 649 BB, 922 K, 3.22 FIP, 89 FIP-, 40.4 WAR, 41.0 JAWS |

Mexico talent edit
I looked at the comparisons between my league and the real-life MLB in terms of nationality percentages. I'm a little more US-heavy, most likely because I reduced the amount of international discoveries because of the talent discrepancy between them and the feeder league players. The 1950 league currently has 78.2% US, 5.4% Dominican, 3.5% Venezuelan, and 1.5% Canadian. In 2018, the MLB was 71% US, 9.6% Dominican, 8.4% Venezuelan, etc. The only nation that appeared to be slightly out of order was Mexico - In real life, the MLB talent is somewhere between Cuba and Japan but my universe had them around Guam and Costa Rica. I upped the talent level of the country to Excellent instead of Good.

Seems like it was mostly just an early decline. He was actually pretty durable with mostly 150-160 games per year and would just miss a few weeks here and there. His career actually looks like a good ramp up, peak, ramp down -- just short. I still wonder if the career arcs are impacted by the feeder leagues, since I believe they count as Major League service. For example, Conner's profile states 16 years of Major Service, but only 12 in MLB. 1 Indy + 3 college = 16. |
