historical transactions management
Does anybody have any ideas how to - relatively simply & quickly - identify 'key' transactions & players moves throughout history?
In my historical sim that begins in 1901 (currently in 1905), I want to build history up to the 50's. I'm assigning rookies to original teams but would also like to have key players - definitely HOFers, and other main guys - be on the teams they actually were (when traded or whatever). Ideally, I'd perform no more than a few minutes of league-wide roster maintenance before each season (trading/moving the 10 or 20 'key' players who changed teams IRL) and run the sim for the season; then repeat the process until I get to the 50's, when I'd begin to more-accurately manage RL txns & rosters (via retrosheet.org). But up until that point, I don't want to have to review every txn to see if it was significant. (Although I don't have a hard & fast RULE on what's significant & what's not, I don't want The Babe spending his whole career w Boston, Rube Walberg not pitching for the '33 A's, Red Ruffing not hurling for the 30's & 40's Yanks, Dolph Camilli not making it the Dodgers in '38, etc... But I also don't to spend time recreating the Highlanders & A's Dave Fultz/Danny Hoffman swap in 1906, the Phillies/Dodgers trade of Bobby Bragan for Jack Kraus in '43, and the hundreds of txns like them - and hundreds and hundreds more with even less significance.) Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

A very late answer:
Play in Commissioner mode, turn off Trades in the League Setup. Look up the transaction page for your particular season on Baseball-Reference.com - Major League Baseball Statistics and History, decide on the trades that you deem significant. Go to the trade screen in OOTP, pick the players you want to trade and push the Force Trade button. |

What he said
Also...I like to edit the 1st 4 years to say "Jack Chesboro JUMPED to the Highlanders" rather then use the term traded. For me, however, I do the player/manager trades and maybe 1 or two huge ones...like Ruth, but other than that...keep trading low and you should have the computer make mediocre for mediocre trades only
