As for discussion over submariners and what difference it makes, it makes a huge difference in L/R split performance. Subbies tend to have wider splits, being far more effective against same-sided hitters and far less effective against opposite-siders than do conventional pitchers. Also, they'll suffer much less of a penalty from throwing at a lower velocity. Most closers are flamethrowers, but submariners operate very effectively while throwing in the mid- to upper 80s.
What new pitches are you talking about? Certainly not split-finger fastballs or forkballs. There is not much really "new". Giving a pitch a new name ie "cutter" doesn't make it a new pitch.

I agree with Gehrig 38 even though I'm late to this thread.

Assuming this game was put together 40 years ago, just prior to the Giants really bringing the splitter to prominence, would it have been considered "feature creep" to add the splitter to the game? Sure, the splitter had been in the game before that, but Roger Craig's philosophies really shone the light on it. There isn't much difference between a forkball and a splitter anyway, yet both are in this game.

And then there's the knuckle curve, which very few pitchers use, yet it's an option. Meanwhile, palmball isn't, despite having, at worst, just as many devotees as the knuckle curve does.

Also, in regards to the gyroball and the shuuto, you could make an argument that the shuuto is just another variant of a slider or cutter, but the gyroball is a completely different thing.

Besides, the technology is already in the game to add more pitches. If knuckle curve is in, at the very least the palmball should be, and I'd welcome all the others as well. We're really only talking about feature creep if we're trying to develop an arm slot/delivery style stat, and you can put me down for always wanting more options over fewer options.

I think the arm angle idea is on the right track, but instead of just a simple description should be an actual rating along the lines of "deception". Certain pitchers "hide" the ball better than do other pitchers. Additionally, some pitchers have "hitches" in their delivery that throw off the timing of hitters, Kershaw is a good example of this.
