Jofre, Almeida is one ...
... of the guys who will be in the next 1940s booster pack. I'll be posting that to CornerWork by next week.
Almeida was just getting to the next competition level with the Caparell and Aldare fights when his career was tragically cut short. Have you got a pic of him?

I downloaded ...
... and installed Cube's pics (gotta love Cube!) and both updates, and Glen Lee's pic isn't in my database. I may have accidentally deleted it, Jofre, so if someone could drop it in here, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
P.S.: My brother-in-law lives in a Boston suburb and says the snow situation up there is terrible. How are you faring, Jofre?

Here is Lee! I posted it some time back. I had to change his name around First name_last name to repost it.

Macho man ...
Before there was Hector Camacho, there was Kirk Douglas! Nice find, Cap!
Thanks, Mike and Jofre, for the Glen Lee shots. Wonder if Chargers/Mark will see the L's list on the previous page and share a few more with us. I'm betting on "yes." I gotta say, TBCB users make a great community. Where else do you get Australians, Brits, Canadians, Mexicans and folks of all ethnicities from the US of A to work together so well? Thanks, all!

Sorry Tosti, I don't think I have one of Meadows. I'll have a good look through my books and see if I find anything though.

1940s fighters
Inspired by Vistaman's 1940s universe (my favourite era) and the request for fighters with which to populate it, I have decided to start hunting through my magazine collection for the same.
I have no idea if these guys have been posted before or if Cube has them in his packs, but they can be taken or left as needed. So, this first batch are from 5 copies of the Referee and Redhead magazine (from my collection of about 40) and as a result they have a distictly 'West Coast' flavour. I will continue to scan from these (and the Knockout - also a Californian publication) befor emoving on to other sources (Ring mags from same period). I hope someone finds a use for them. |

1940s
Time permitting, more of the same tommorrow. Unless they are not required of course.
Tom, I am presently re-reading Armstrong's book - could do with a re-do if you ask me! (not that it is poor, but it is about time he had another bio). Re-working the Burley book as I have a ton of new info on his first manager (and the impact on Burley's early career) and some of the other fighters around at the time. I am just waiting on photos from the USA before I put the finishing touches to it. I am also working on a research project for the Merseyside Former Boxers Association (collecting and archiving information on local venues and fighters). Plus I am back coaching after a number of years out - so I have plenty to do at the moment. Did you visit my website yet? It is a work in progress (yet another thing to occupy my time). I have the entire contents of Charley's scrapbook to enter (once scanned) along with the other members of the Murderers' Row (and possibly some details - no matter how small - on all of Burley's opponents). http://CharleyBurley.com Hope all is well. Great stuff!
Wow, Boxscribe, I envy your magazine collection. The 1940s are my favorite era, too, obviously.
By all means, keep them coming! Several of these are guys I've already rated, like Cato and Volk, and others are on the list, like Turner and Sherrer. Keep up the great work!

Website is looking good Harry.
Just spent a bit of time looking at Nunc Wallace, courtesy of Antek, couldn't find that much about him so when I have a spare day I'm going to the National Library archive to see what I can dig up on him. |
