Royals trade pieces 2019
Bailey - gone to Oakland .... but Kansas City was only paying him the league minimum seems the Dodgers are paying the rest or about $22.5 million .. and if I read correctly Oakland gets this arrangement for one more year .
Maldonado - gone to Cubs for pitcher Mike Montgomery . Diekman - talk is Texas, Tampa Bay, LA Dodgers, Phillies Braves but I like Boston -- think he would fit the bullpen Hamilton - would provide speed and defense - Colorado, Houston, ??? Soler - will likely pass on the final year of contract at $4 million and go arbitration - not what Royals want in a rebuild . -- ideas Tampa Bay, Texas, Arizona Giants ??? Kennedy - has been in the closer role - but this would a small market salary move and could help a team -- Tampa Bay , Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta. Does any one have ideas ?

While I understand the economics of the situation I still feel it is bad for baseball fans to have a couple of teams that are pretty much farm teams for the big spenders to come poach each summer at the deadline.
It's great KC won a few years ago but if they can't even try to be competitive with salary and wins the league should think long and hard about forcing a sale or moving the franchise. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Small Market teams must use the current system . Young players can not be brought up from minors till they are able to contribute . That usually means they are tied to the Major League team for another 6 years at a manageable contract . It also means the player is 28, 29, 30 years old .... That is the small market window to win . If management trades established pieces for players just stepping up they can stretch that window. Kansas City missed that chance with Cain, Hoss, Moose, ........ KC could see the young talent and paid Gordon to be a leader 2 World Series appearances and a RING ...... KC did not trade taking one more shot and IT HURTS ...... Perez will be back next year and hopefully they can work him in at DH and C .... Believe Gordon as one more year .
Small market teams can win .... they need to scout and develop talent. they need to be sure that when the clock starts the players are ready to contribute ..... Cubs tried this with Kris Bryant, but some players have threatened or filed greivences. ..... so now the Cubs will face paying or trading or letting some walk .... Same with the Red Sox and their young players ...... Dustin Pedora will help (? ) he will retire and walk away from $25 M over next 2 years.

Small market teams can indeed win, with a decent farm system and ownership willing to make at least a few reasonable FA investments.
It bothers me when some people here in Cleveland are already wringing their hands about Lindor leaving in a couple years.
