The Savoy League - OOTP 5
Why do people still play OOTP 5? Because it's a pretty decent engine and they don't want to lose their league's history to update to a newer version of the sim.
Our league has been around since 2003. In that time we've simulated baseball history from 1938 to 1974. We are currently about to start the 1975 season. We began with 12 teams and we currently have 24. Some of our owners have been here since the beginning and many others have joined along the way. There are a few things that make our league unique: 1. We try and tie our league totals to the totals of the actual major leagues, but there definitely is variation. In 1968, the league put up a 3.20 ERA. While in 1945 the league only had 5 batters reach the 20 homer mark. 2. We have had real fictional players pass through our league. In other words, we borrow from baseball television, fiction, video games, and movies. Roy Hobbs, Brock Rutherford, Benny Rodriguez and Chet Steadman have all been a part of our league. Our all time homerun leader comes from an episode of the X-Files. Of course, there are plenty of Savoy immortals who were just randomly made by the computer. 3. The league was developed by some veteran owners and some new owners so we wanted it to challenge the experts and be friendly to the novices. Many of us have had the experience of joining a new OOTP league only to be fleeced by the veterans. One result of our push for parity is that our top earning team had $77,000,000 to work with last year and our bottom earning team was at $43,000,000. Even after 37 seasons, our financials aren't broken. We have a couple teams open. One is great for those who love a rebuilding challenge and the other one is ready to compete for the title on day 1.
