Why you shouldn't let AI draft for you.

Just for fun, let the AI conduct my inaugural draft for 1969 game.

Seven first baseman.

Let's just say I won't be making THAT mistake again.

I dont see anything wrong. You never know when you might need a 7th first basemen. Heck im just concern something might be wrong cause it didnt give you 8 first basemen.

Yeah, there's a lot of info missing here. How many teams and leagues, how long was the draft, do some of the 1bmen have good fielding ratings at other positions...

This. Right here.

OOTP has a habit of assigning guys who can play multiple positions the tag of whichever position is rated the highest. In the case of infield utility men, first base requires much lower ratings to be proficient at, which means that if a guy can play third and second base pretty well, he can most likely play first base spectacularly. OOTP then calls him a first basemen when he enters the draft, since his first base rating is higher than all his other positions.

So yeah, check the fielding ratings.

Yup I agree . Always check as ootp has its reasons and you just need to understand them . I my self like to make all my picks as I have been very sucessful with drafting good players late and that helps me out a ton. I don't like letting ootp draft for me as its not me simply lol.

More info

2 at the MLB level, 5 in AAA, none in AA or A. 2 catchers in the entire organization. Standard late 60's alignment.

Best of the batch was Ed Kranepool in his twilight years. Forgive me Ed, but I never thought of you as much of a player in your prime. Don't remember the others by name. I grew up during that era, so that tells me a lot (Insert failing memory jokes here) about how obscure they were.

This was the first time I ever let the AI completely draft for me, and I wasn't thrilled. I still wouldn't trade this game for anything else...

...but I might offer ya Ed Kranepool for a pick in next year's draft. Get back to me if you're interested.

Well now you have me curious, so without knowing anything else about your draft except the season 1969, the distribution, and Ed Kranepool, I am going to predict who the other 6 choices were. please let me know how many I get right:

Mike Fiore
Ramon Webster
Nate Colbert
Mike Hegan
Gail Hopkins
Fred Whitfield
