STL Cardinals 3
NY METS 5

STL Carlos Martinez pitched a gem, but after waking up, the Mets lineup grabs the Opening Day win.
I thought the AI was going to win this game no matter what we did.

For STL:
Carlos Martinez had 9 Ks and the Mets had a lot of trouble finding ways to break through.
Kolten Wong went 2-4 and hit a long HR(1) off of Syndergaard in the 5th.
Paul DeJong was the main man for them as he went 3-4 today.

For NYM:
"Thor" did not have his best, but it was enough to get the win.
He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits with 6 strikeouts to his credit.
It was the lineup that won the game today.
Freddie Freeman hit his 1st HR, a 3-run shot to put the Mets ahead in a 5-run 6th inning.
Jose Altuve and Aaron Judge both had two hits today.
The bullpen was strong as Kenley Jansen got his 1st save of the year.
Starting off the season 1-0 is always sweet and special.
We have the day off tomorrow!
See you Saturday!

When Correa, the real-life 2018 AL MVP, is batting 8th, you know you have a stacked lineup.

No game today.
But two of the ex-Mets got signed today.
I thought I would keep tabs on these guys and see where they end up.

RIP Rusty Staub

May not be a HOFamer, but he is definitely in the Hall of the Very Good!

STL Cardinals 2
NY METS 6

NYM Clayton Kershaw gets his season off to a good start as the Mets take the series over the Cardinals.

For STL:
Michael Wacha actually pitched ok, but ran out of gas starting in the 5th inning.
Jedd Gyorko hit his 1st HR off of Ken Giles in the 9th, and was 2-4 today.

For NYM:
Kershaw was on his game as he went 7.2 innings, gave up 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 9!
Aaron Judge(1), Bryce Harper (1) and Buster Posey(1) all hit the long-ball today.
Mike Trout was 3-5 today as he continues his hot start to the season.

The Mets will go for the series sweep tomorrow!

I always follow your seasons. It's your deal of course, but what is the fun of playing a completely stacked team?

I understand your question, but there is a lot of fun in that.
Yes, I have a team that should win it all, but I am trying to prove a point for this season after last year's disaster.
When you play each and every game out, OOTP uses a different engine for the actual game.
If you look at the 1st game of this season already, you can see how STL Carlos Martinez, who is a pretty good pitcher by the way, was outmatching NYM Noah Syndergaard.
For the 1st 5 innings of that game, my stacked team was doing NOTHING and had suffered 9 strikeouts against Martinez.
It wasn't until the 6th that the Mets put 5 on the board, and most of it was a Freddie Freeman 3-run HR.
So even if I have team that could win over 120 plus games over the season, there is still no guarantee that we will the title!
There is a lot of pressure on ME to play this season right.
If I don't win the world series, it will make me look bad, but also, the AI controls this game as well.
So even if I make the right moves, the AI can still cause me to lose.
During the Beta, I put together many super-teams for the Mets and let the simulation engine run through the season.
I did 5 test runs.
Do you know how many times the super-Mets won the world series?
ONCE!
The other four times?
Eliminated by the SD Padres, yes the PADRES, in the Division Series.
Eliminated by the CHI Cubs in the NLCS, TWICE!
Lost to the CLE Indians in the World Series.
My stacked teams were 20% for the beta!
Now the teams i built during the beta were never the same.
But, they still had many of the players that are on the team that i am currently using for this season.
There is no guarantee for anything with this game and of course, that is what makes it so great.
So I believe that this game engine does cheat and of course, Markus will not comment on that.
He doesn't have to.
He has put together the greatest baseball simulation in the world and I thank him for that.
With the new 3D engine that he put together, it another reason to play out each and every game.
So, to answer your question, what is the fun in playing a stacked team?
Its not fun...ITS A BLAST!
Seeing all these great players in a METS uniform is awesome.
There is also a lot of pressure.
I'm not the only one who plays OOTP this way.
I'm pretty sure that a lot of OOTPlayers have tried this idea one time or another.
I play historical too.
I did a Mets dynasty from 1962-1977 and won the World Series only twice using the simulation engine, but the playoff games were played out.
Drafting players that were going to be HOFamers and all-stars.
Its too bad the dynasty crashed.
Might try it again one day!
So in closing, what is the fun of playing a stacked team in OOTP?
Just that its OOTP baseball and it is so customizable.
Just follow my season and have fun reading it.
After all, aren't YOU having fun reading my thread?

Happy Easter everyone and April Fools to all!

STL Cardinals 1
NY METS 3
Citi Field

NYM Stephen Strasburg was on his game as the Mets sweep the Redbirds!

For STL:
Adam Wainright was almost as good as Strasburg.
He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits.
Marcell Ozuna hit his 1st HR of the year and got 2 hits off of Strasburg.

For NYM:
Strasburg gives up 1 run on 3 hits as the Ozuna HR was the only dent in his armor.
The Mets lineup did have some issues with Wainright, but Jose Altuve and Aaron Judge did get 2 hits each off of him.
Kenley Jansen grabbed his 2nd save, with Ken Giles and Zach Britton each picking up a hold.

Series Preview: PHI Phillies @ Citi Field (3-Games)

After taking out the Cardinals, the Phillies will now come to the Big Apple.
They are off to an 2-1 start, but this early in the season, we still do not know what teams are made of.
PHI Rhys Hoskins looks like he is off to a good start, so we might have to be careful with him.
The Mets will bring Sale, Kluber and Syndergaard to the mound for this 3-game set.

PHI Phillies 1
NY METS 2
Citi Field

The Mets get by the Phillies behind the pitching of NYM Chris Sale.

For PHI:
Tom Eshelman give Sale a tough duel as he only allowed 1 run on 6 hits.
The Phillies could only manage 5 hits but an Odubel Herrera triple in the 9th inning made things interesting.

For NYM:
Chris Sale had 5 Ks, but he only allowed two hits.
Kenley Jansen picked up his 3rd save of the year, while Aroldis Chapman and Max Scherzer each grabbed a hold.
Mike Trout smacked his 1st HR of the season, while Jose Altuve was 3-4 for the night.
For such a stacked lineup, we are not scoring many runs. (AI CHEATS?)

PHI Phillies 0
NY METS 8
Citi Field

A cold snowy day cant keep the Mets down as they beat the Phillies with a snowman on the scoreboard!

For PHI:
Mark Leiter goes 4 innings and gives up 3 runs on 4 hits.
But it was Adam Morgan who got clobbered out of the pen.
Giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and was exhausted most of the time on the mound.
Maikel Franco had 2 hits for the Fightin' Phils tonight.

For NYM:
Corey Kluber had 10 strikeouts and scattered 3 hits as he put handcuffs on the Phillies in this game.
HRs tonight: Aaron Judge(2), Mike Trout(2), Jose Altuve(1) and Freddie Freeman(2).
Carlos Correa and Altuve had 3 hits tonight.
Even Corey Kluber had a couple of singles.
With the win, we take the series versus PHI and will try to sweep tomorrow night.

NYM Syndergaard outduels PHI Nola, but just barely thanks to an early Bryce Harper HR.

For PHI:
Aaron Nola has a 7.88 ERA, but you wouldn't have known that by the way he pitched against the Mets in this game. (AI CHEATS?)
He struck out 8 and only gave up the one HR.
Not everyday when you pitch a one-hitter and LOSE!

For NYM:
Noah Syndergaard pitched just a little bit better though.
He struck out 11 and went 7.1 innings.
Only 2 hits he scattered.
Bryce Harper hit his 2nd HR of the year, which was the reason why we won.
Ken Giles got his 1st save of the season.

We sweep the Phillies, shut them out twice and allow only 1 run in the 3 games played!

Series Preview: WAS Nationals @ Nationals Park (3-games)

Its only a few games into the season, but this series against the Nationals I think is big.
Even though we took out their teeth in taking their best players for the Mets, WAS can still win games.
They still have some good players on that team and we still have to play our best.
Kershaw, Strasburg and Sale will get the starts for this pretty big weekend series.

NY METS 2
WAS Nationals 1
Nationals Park

The Mets needed to make a rally against a tough Nationals team to come away with the win!

For NYM:
Clayton Kershaw strikes out 9 and allowed 1 run on 4 hits.
Zach Britton comes away with the win and Aroldis Chapman gets his 1st save!
Mike Trout was 2-2 as well as Carlos Correa.
But Bryce Harper and Gary Sanchez get the big RBIs when needed.

For WAS:
Tanner Roark was excellent, he did not give up a run and struck out 6.
Ryan Madson gets the loss, his 2nd.
Trea Turner scored the only run for the Nationals as he was able to reach home on a throwing error by Buster Posey.

It was a close one, but we will take the win.
The Mets are off tomorrow so the next game versus WAS will be Saturday.
See you then!

NY METS 9
WAS Nationals 1
Nationals Park

The Mets come to DC and rout the Nats as Strasburg gets 10 Ks versus his former team.

For NYM:
Stephen Strasburg goes 8 and puts his former teammates on ice as he gives up 1 run on 3 small hits.
Five Mets players had 2 hits in the boxscore with Mike Trout(3) and Buster Posey(2) hitting HRs today.
Aaron Judge was the only batter who did not get a hit, but he was walked 3 times.

For WAS:
Jeremy Hellickson got smacked around in the game giving up 5 runs on 6 hits.
The WAS bullpen wasn't much better, giving up 4 more runs in the game.
Matt Adams was the bright spot for the Nationals, going 2-4 today.

The Mets win the series and will try for their 3rd straight series sweep tomorrow.

NY METS 3
WAS Nationals 4
Nationals Park
(10 innings)

The Nationals stop the Mets winning streak as WAS Erick Fedde outpitched NYM Chris Sale. (AI Cheats?)

For NYM:
Sale gives up 3 runs on 8 hits, but only strikes out 2 batters.
Not the kind of game you expect from him.
Nolan Arenado hits his 1st HR of the year.
Mike Trout continues to be hot with 2 hits today.
He shares that with Gary Sanchez.
The bullpen blew the game as Kenley Jansen takes the loss, his 1st.

For WAS:
Fedde gave up 2 runs on 4 hits thru 5 innings of work.
Shawn Kelley got the win, his 1st.
Michael Taylor and Anthony Rendon hit BTB HRs off of Sale.
Ryan Zimmerman got the GW-RBI in the 10th off of Luis Severino.

Kind of figured that the Nationals would give the Mets their 1st loss of the year.
But in the bottom of the 10th, the Nats just got hit after hit and made my bullpen look bad.
But we do win the series and now head to South Beach for three against MIA!
