An appropriate prize?!

Now this does puzzle me. Browsing through tourneys for the Old Timers to sign up for and I come across the 'Sunday Historical', historical cards only, 1935 set-ups. So far, so good.

Then the prize for winning is the '99' All-Star Aroldis Chapman. Er, what? Chapman is a fine pitcher indeed, and I'm sure the card reflects that, but surely a historical (not just non-Live!) card is a more appropriate choice for a historics tourney?

Each tournament has an overall rating range defined for the card prizes it gives to the winner(s), f.e. 95-99, and when a new tournament is generated the game randomly selects a card within that range. Sometimes it mingles well, sometimes it doesn't.

I will agree that we could do more with historical tournaments, like limit the time span from which cards can be selected in addition to playing to a certain year's stats and rewarding an era-appropriated prize.

It seems they designed a system where instead of hand crafting tournaments they automated much of the process including prize selection.

It makes sense given the small development team and the metric **** load of tournaments that are offered.
And since they got it into the game so late they probably wanted it to be hands off.

I am guessing next year if tournaments make it in from day 1 they we will see more manually created ones advertised on these forums to build up the hype and some really nice prizes.

I also envision some 'select invitational' type of tournaments where we can play against the developers or even some that are invite only with a chance of winning a card that is a 1 of 1 and will only be given out once.

That could still work ... if the year given on historical cards (f.e. 1969 Tom Seaver) is more than just a pretty image and is actually stored with the relevant data for tournament selection, like the overall rating is. Then you can give a reward that is era-appropriate, too.

The same goes for the card category. A tournament only for Unsung Heroes would be possible. If it can be done with the rating it can be done with everything... but I guess it's a metric ton of work to create that database of additional card data since it doesn't seem like it was planned like that from the outset.

This is also a very new mechanic. It makes sense to make sure it can walk before it breaks into a full sprint.

But, good night, how I'd love to see some of these 'sprints' people are coming up with
