Please don't make engine like FM

I've noticed that the programmer worked with the FM team. My points are listed below so you don't stuff up this sim and scare the users away like the FM boys have. I"m willing to help whatever it takes.

1 - Please don't make the engine always come back and win in the last 10 minutes of the game when you are leading by a big margin. This always happened and it was frequent, regardless of what stats your players had and what formation you used.

2 - When there was a finals game and it was played on a neutral ground, the first 45 mins was a booster to either you or the NPC. So for one half the team played like it was playing at home and in the second half it was like you were the away team.

3 - Realistic transfers e.g. the team allows you to talk to the player and purchase him but the player thinks your teams stinks even when you entice him with world transfer offer.

Thats all i have to say. Good luck and can't wait for the release date.

Yes. Please base winning and losing on how good your players are, rather than giving an artificial advantage to the AI.

And please, have a "can't get fired" option in this game.

Yeah, consider this the, "any way you want it but not like FM" thread. Childish perhaps but important for so many reasons.

No "transfers". Period. None of this Euro-silliness. Only allow draft picks, free agents and trades. Talking to players with the intention of getting them to leave their team and come to yours is tampering in ALL real sports and should not be allowed in this game.

Stick to American sport economic models.

Did you watch the Seattle vs Atlanta divisional playoff game a few years ago? Seattle was down by 20 with less than 10 minutes left and they nearly won. In professional football, really anything can happen.

Clearly the AI cheated in this game:

Colts complete 2nd-largest comeback in NFL playoff history vs. Chiefs - SBNation.com

And last night, the Broncos looked like they were going to destroy the Colts by an absurd margin, based on the halftime score, but they ended up sweating out a 4th quarter comeback attempt and winning by 7.

One of the biggest challenges of writing a sports simulation engine is making it seem "realistic" enough that when a huge comeback or blowout happens it feels like an exciting outcome instead of a "broken engine". It's no small task, to say the least.

If the engine turns out to be FM quality on an American Football level it will be a great job.

Players seem to think if they don't win all the time or don't apply the correct tactics that it's a "Broken Engine"

It did always strike me as slightly ironic that the world-leaders in Capitalism run their sports in the most Socialist ways possible, while the European countries who are seen as fairly Socialist (compared to the US) run their sports in a the most Capitalistic of terms. (Of course I understand why, I just find it slightly strange )

However, back on topic, you will be pleased to learn it's an NFL game, not a Soccer game, so there are draft picks and not transfers!

But can you sell draft picks for money, and use that money to buy more and better draft picks?

Have to agree. I would actaully think the current FM engine is more suited to American Football than it is soccer.

In fact in my ideal world this new game and OOTP would look and run very much like Football Manager. Much in the same way EHM did a few years back.

I have played a lot of sports sims over the last 20 years and FM stands out by a mile. The game that every other sports sim should aspire to.

I would love to see an NFL game play out on the current FM engine with a extensive range of tactical/play option similar to FM.

If you get the playbook creation right this game will epic in its own right!!

Ugh. Well, if it's more like FM than OOTP in any way, *especially* in the blatantly cheating AI, then it will definitely not be a game for me.

Time to exit this thread, because I can see it becoming another of those endlessly circling flame-fests that have made the SI forum such an unfriendly place.

Sorry to ask, but is FM Football Manager or Franchise Hockey Manager?

Usually refers to Football Manager.

Yeah, I always thought it'd be sweet to see an NFL game with FM-like graphics while also being a OOTP-like in terms of trades, free agency, drafts. I thought it probably wouldn't become a reality until maybe 2025 or 2030, but now that BTS is part of OOTP developments, I'm optimistic about it getting to that level relatively soon. Or at least being highly entertaining and realistic like OOTP baseball.
