Here are the top minor systems heading into 1978. Also the experts have updated their Preseason predictions. Blue Jays have their hands full this year even trying to reach .500 "they say".

One month into the season and the Jays are .500 and 2.5 games back of the heavily favourited Brewers.

Jays issues continue to be scoring runs and preventing runs from scoring = not a good sign if you expect to make the playoffs :-)

I am going to have to make some changes in the bullpen. I went with the hot arms coming out of spring but.... not really proving to be a good strategy early on.

1978 Amateur Draft Pool Revealed - Some great players available!

Who will the Jays be able to draft this year? Last year it was Paul Molitor this year?

The Blue Jays in 1978 have reached June and sit only 2 games back of the Brewers and Red Sox for the AL East lead.

The changes to my pen have really helped out. I now have the 2nd best pen in the AL based on ERA. I juggled the lineup a bit too and we are now in the top half of the league in most categories offensively. My only sore spot is in the rotation. I am going with the quick hook and my pen is bailing me out right now but, I'm worried that in the end it won't be sustainable vs. these power houses in the AL East.

I will be shopping around for a SP and might look in my reserve roster for boost / upgrade.

The Blue Jays are happy with their 1978 Amateur draft results.

We didn't land one of the top echelon players but, we feel we got a steal at #13 in R1 to bring back home one of the organizations in RL best SPs - Dave Stieb. Not even Paul Molitor can hit his slider...

Pretty happy with Jesse Orosco in R2 as well. We need arms to build around our future hitters. One of the downsides of trying to compete early on is you drop further down in the draft pecking order.

The Blue Jays have reached the mid-summer classic in 1978 and are in the hunt in the AL East resting only 3 games back of the Indians.

This years allstar game will feature our 1st vote in player - 3B Doug DeCinces! He was also our first player of the month winner.

The Blue Jays are coming off a 25-30 June/July record but, somehow are still holding on to slim hopes in the AL East, trailing Cleveland by 3 games.

Our SP remains the worst in the league and over the past couple of weeks are bats have gone stone cold. We are trying to shake up the rotation by adding in Dave Stieb, Doyle Alexander and Randy Scarberry. Hal McRae just went down with a 3 week injury but, it wasn't like he was having a great year anyway - .223/.285/.377. I thought that trade involving Pete Rose was going to be a slam dunk this year - NOT.

Lets hope we can finish better than we did last year in August/September.

Well another mid-Sept message indicating our playoff hopes are done. 1978 is over for the Jays but, we are starting to play some vets to see who wants to stick with the ball club heading into 1979.

We are 14 games back of Milwaukee and it is clear we need SP badly. Our second biggest need is to score runs and get on base. Sounds like a lot of work to be done :-)

Doug DeCinces has been joined by Paul Molitor as the teams' best performers hitting wise. Paul has also done a great job swiping bases with 46 so far this season. Unfortunately the double play combo of Molitor and Bucky Dent is currently on the DL. Meanwhile Doug has had his 2nd consecutive 30+ HRs & 100 RBI seasons. He will be with the Blue Jays for 2 more seasons guaranteed after he signed his 3 year extension before 1978 for $600K or $200K/per season.

The California Angels win back to back World Series Championships! and Nolan Ryan is the back to back World Series MVP! Incredible accomplishment by the Angels and the "Ryan Express".

California defeated the Brew Crew in the AL Championship meanwhile the Expos took down the Astros in the NL Championship.

The Angels disappointed all of Canad-EH with a 4-2 series win vs. the Expos. Nolan Ryan had two big victories against Steve Rogers the Expos ACE.

Well it is the off-season as we begin to plan for our 3rd season 1979 MLB.

My score didn't improve much but, I really enjoy and believe my team is heading in the right direction. Not to sound like a broken record but, we will need better SP and our offense must be able to consistently score runs and get on base more often.

Lets see how we do in FA this year!

Toronto picks up some nice silverware in the offseason!

Rick Bosetti (basket catch specialist) won a GG in RF, Doug DeCinces 3B won a SilverSlugger Award and Terry Forster our FA pickup in 78 goes on to win the Reliever of the Year award.

My owner wasn't so nice to me this off-season with my goals. Now instead of going for the playoffs he is asking us to reach the world series in the next 5 years :-))

Toronto Blue Jays are excited to announce that Mr. George Brett 3B has agreed to a long term contract to be the teams 3B. Doug DeCinces will move over to 1B with this acquisition. We are hoping this pine tars the offense this year.

Toronto had a decent off-season in FA. We got our big bat in George Brett (maybe that will prevent us from losing in 1985 ;-)). We ended up signing a backup defensive catch in Steve Yeager and also landed a good UTIL INF Bud Harrelson.

Here are the list of the moves along with the Initial Pre-Season predictions for MLB 1979. Jays predicted to win 92 games! WoW.

From a SP rotation stand point we were not interested in signing any Comp "A" players so we passed. We did sign Brett as a comp "B" but, he was more than worth it!

Luckily our SP rotation is developing regardless of the lack of activity this winter.

Our rotation features new additions: Rick Sutcliffe, Bob Stanley (from RP), Stieb on a full year and our vets Kison and Alexander. Our pen looks stellar again so it will be a matter of the offense coming through this year and staying "healthy!"

The 1979 Toronto Blue Jays are predicted to win 97 games and take home their first AL East Division Championship. We are pretty excited about our pitching staff. Things looked cloudy heading in this year but, the development of our SPs have been impressive. George Brett also leads an improved offense with the likes of Paul Molitor, Doug DeCinces and Hal McRae. Our defense is also improved as well.

The minor league system is also ranked very high. Congratulations for the Mariners the other 1977 Expansion team for passing us this year.

Well Well, the 1979 season has started off on the right foot for the Blue Jays. We are leading the AL East by 3 games over pesky Boston. More importantly we are in the top 1/3 of most pitching and hitting categories. Rick Sutcliffe SP, P Molitor SS, Hal McRae DH and our FA acquisition George Brett 3B are all off to stellar starts. Ed Whitson who might get a shot at this rotation this year has an ERA of 0.00 so far in only 6 IP in relief.

The 1979 draft isn't as great as the previous two seasons in terms of the number of superstars but it is deep in talent. Coming off a lack luster 1978 season, we get to draft #9. Who might be available? Got to love the drafts in leagues such as this one!

The Toronto Blue Jays had a great 1979 draft - We landed Fernando Valenzuela SP & Mike Boddicker SP & Dave LaPointe SP.

Toronto is 1 game back of Baltimore as of Friday June 8th, 1979.

The SP rotation continues to highlight a great season, meanwhile the bullpen has recently began to slip and also the early in the year power has been in a slump thus effective the number of runs scored.

We were without Paul Molitor for a few weeks and he is the catalyst in our offense so we are glad to see him back in the lineup and leading off to set the table.

Pedro Torres our superstar spec took the pen spot from Bob Lacey who just doesn't have it this year. Torres has been subject to several trades but, I decided from the beginning to hold on to him.

Meanwhile don't look now can the Angels win back to back to back this year??!!

The Toronto Blue Jays made their first ever major blockbuster trade at the trade deadline in 1979!

The Blue Jays sent SP Bob Stanley to the Astros for Slugger 1B/3B Bob Horner.

Toronto is 4 games back of the Bronx Bombers in the AL East and the owner was pushing hard for a power hitter. Well we got one and lets see what we do the rest of the way!

Ed Whitson SP first no hitter in Blue Jays history!

Jays tough struggling down the stretch yet again as the Bob Horner deal has been horrible for us. We are 10.5 games back on Sept 17th with a 76-73 record. The Bronx Bombers just won't let up this year.

Bob since the trade has not even hit his weight!!

Well the Jays 1979 season comes to an end losing 4-1 to the Yankees at home on September 23rd. 9.5 games back and another season where the wheels fall off after July.

Looks like the Angels and Astros are poised to return the post season. Angels will be looking for a three-peat since I started this Historical Sim winning in 77, 78 and maybe 79?

Statistically speaking everything improved this year except the long ball and Horner who was supposed to be the hero for the Jays didn't pull off a Tulo/Price/Revere/Lowe type atmosphere this season!

The Blue Jays ended up finishing above .500 for the first time with an 82-80 record. Meanwhile the Yankees hung on to win the AL East and will face the California Angels in the AL Championship. In the NL, Montreal won a 1 game playoff vs. St. Louis to win the NL East and they will play the Houston Astros again in the NL Championship.

Congratulations to Paul Molitor for winning the AL Batting title!
