Baserunners advancing on hits—not
Has anybody else noticed that the faster the runner, the worse he fares when attempting to advance an additional base on a hit? At first I thought perhaps I was just experiencing some bad luck, but I've now played several thousand games; I'm convinced “it’s a thing”. I have much better success sending slow runners than fast runners. I have one speed 20 (using the 1–20 rating system) guy who has been thrown out every single time I've attempted to advance him in a three-season span. I’m not sure how many times it’s been, because I hardly ever send him anymore since I know he’s going to be out, but it’s got to be at least 12 to 15 times. Meanwhile I send guys with a 5 speed rating and they're safe at least half of the time (that’s an estimate)
I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I can’t believe anyone who plays at least a full season of games wouldn’t notice it, unless it’s only happening to me. I’m not quite paranoid enough to believe that. The fact that the phenomenon doesn’t make any logical sense leads me to believe it’s some odd bug where the program reads a 20 as a 2 or something like that. Is that possible? |

No, I find it seems to fit what I'd expect.
Ball location, runner speed, type of hit and OF arm have a lot to do with it. So does number of outs. A runner will score more often from 2B with 2 outs

Yeah, I know all that; I'm aware of all the variables. What I'm suggesting is that they don't seem to matter.
Actually, I almost never send a runner home from 2B on a single UNLESS there are two outs; the only exceptions are when it's late in the game and it's the tying or winning run. |

If it were obviously wrong you would be just one of hundreds posting on it. I'd be there with them. You can make a change to the success rates of runners advancing. Look for a file called engine.cfg. It is a text file that allows you to control the outcomes of many specific occurrences in-game. See how to find it below.

I hadn't looked into tweaking the success rates in engine.cfg. It's good that the option of changing the rates exists; however, I'm not sure it would do me any good. The phenomenon I'm noticing is faster runners are getting thrown out too often AND slower runners (by comparison) are not getting thrown out enough; if I ramp up the success rate, that's going to make the slower runners too successful (which they may already be as it is).
As I mentioned, I've played thousands of games in OOTP 15; I'm not basing my belief that this is happening based on a small sample size. I didn't notice it at the beginning, I suspect it's something that started with one of the patches. Maybe my game got corrupted somehow; who knows. You say you haven't noticed it; I believe you. I agree that if it was widespread someone else would probably have brought it up. That's why I posted; I don't follow the forum with any kind of regularity so I thought I might have missed a thread discussing this very issue. Maybe someone else will see this and report they've noticed it too. If not, I might have to conclude something weird is going on with my copy of the game. |
