2004 San Francisco Giants - A Return To Postseason (I Hope)

I'm probably not as good as Felipe Alou but here it goes.

Here are 3 things to possibly look for in 2004:

1.) Kirk Rueter pitched through a shoulder problem in 2003 and only had 10 wins. If healthy, Rueter could win as many as 15.

2.) A better season from Barry Bonds. Bonds was probably mentally and physically drained last season due to the illness and death of his father, Bobby. We can expect him to reach the 100-rbi plateau again.

3.) More of a focus on team speed. The Giants had a league worst 53 stolen bases in 2003. A healthier Durham should help to raise that total.

A look at the lineup and rotation

starting lineup

1. Ray Durham, 2b - A great leadoff man but fragile
2. J.T. Snow, 1b - A great defensive 1b who hits well in the clutch
3. Michael Tucker, rf - Came from KC and should be an instant contributor
4. Barry Bonds, lf - Will still be ranked among the league's best performers
5. Edgardo Alfonzo, 3b - He's got a lively bat and very good hands
6. A.J. Pierzynski, c - A good hitter who could boost the team's offense.
7. Marquis Grissom, cf - Looks like he has a few good years left in the tank
8. Neifi Perez, ss - Should be able to hone hitting skills with increase PT

starting rotation

1. Jason Schmidt, RH - Currently on 15-day DL, a Cy Young hopeful if healthy
2. Kirk Rueter, LH - Has to reconfirm his status as an elite pitcher
3. Brett Tomko, RH - His experience could boost the rotation
4. Jerome Williams, RH - Should be even better in sophmore season
5. Dustin Hermanson, RH - Team needs him to be a pleasant surprise

***Noah Lowry will fill in for injured Schmidt.***

closer
Matt Herges, RH - Pitched great in place of Nen in 2003. Will fill in again while Robb Nen is on 60-day DL

The only reason that he didn't hit into one earlier (5th inn.) was because I sent Alfonzo on a hit & run.

He's slower than spilt maple syrup outdoors in January in Maine.

not really. i keep a scorecard for every game and just put the pbp here after the game is over. it's not a problem for me. the only thing is that i can only put the boxscore here if i am at work or at a pc that has word. (i don't have it at home)

at least the play-by-play allows you to follow along as the game progresses. you can't do that with a summary or a boxscore alone.

i guess that the pbp makes this different than the rest.

i will provide the standings, league leaders, Giants' individual stats at the beginning of each week (on the Monday).

i know that i am putting alot of time and work into this but i like doing it.
