The Portland All Stars
Humble Beginnings
Following the conclusion, of the 2010 season it was announced, to cover costs following the struggling economic climate, that the NL Eastern Division was to be expanded by the introduction of two new teams. The Charlotte Eagles and the Portland All Stars, introduced following years of campaigning for a stadium located in Portland. "It is a pleasure to introduce both of these new teams to the thrills of the Major League. May they become a fantastic part of the American pastime" said the Commissioner. It was announced that the All Stars first ever manager would be Cristian Ortiz, a 42 year old manager of some repute in the minor leagues and hailing from Cuba. "It is an honour to have my name in this clubs history. May we lead the team to glory. However many are skeptical about the decision to appoint a manager, many believe to be a complete unknown on the baseball circuit. Similarly the appointment of 34 year old Jim Smith is also considered a major risk, Smith who was once on the fringes of the Boston Red Sox team during the late 1990s and who had to bow out following an injury is pleased to have been given the role. "My thanks to the owner for giving me this chance" Tomorrow however is the expansion draft, and it will be something worth watching for the people of Portland. Though many consider the market size small the people in Portland are proud to have a Major League Baseball Team in the city. |
