2013 World Series
So, the dust has settled, and after 7 months of struggling, after all of the ups and downs, everything is down to one series between my Red Sox, and the Cardinals. I think the Red Sox will win this- they just find ways to win, and come through when they need to, and have done so so many times, that I really have run out of doubts of this team. What do you guys think?

I think this season proves Bobby Valentine is the greatest manager in the history of baseball......

I can't think of an outcome I wanted less than this. Now I am forced to root for the Cardinals or the Red Sox. Two of my top 3 least favorite teams.

you gotta pull for the cardinals. they are the darkhorse here with 17 players drafted and built through their organization on the roster and one half the payroll of the redsox.

The fanbases of both teams are perfect reasons to root for Stadium Collapse to win.

"Redsox's lineup = a bunch of fags, this should be easy" Of course, the red Sox led all of baseball in runs scored, OBP, slugging (and thus OPS), and total bases, but i guess that doesn't matter. EDIT: The only offensive categories the Cardinals lead the Red Sox in (or, at least the ones provided on baseball reference) are strikeouts, sacrifice hits, and runners left on base. I'm guessing every team has fans like that though. Living in New England, I know what Red Sox fans are like from personal experience So, go Cards! |

The Cardinals will win this series.
They have an advantage when the DH is used, because they can get Craig's bat into the lineup. They have an advantage when the DH is not used because Boston has to put Ortiz on the bench or weaken their defense to play him. The Cardinals have the hot pitcher (Wacha). The Cardinals have the best post-season player on either roster (Beltran). |

But as for the points above, I don't really think there's enough of a difference between Napoli and Ortiz's defense (roughly 10 runs per season, 0 WAR for Napoli to -1.0 WAR for Ortiz) to make a difference over the course of three games. And I don't see that playing Craig at DH is any advantage for the Cards. The Red Sox get to get either Napoli or Ortiz back in the lineup when the DH is in play and Napoli and Craig are a wash offensively, while Ortiz is better than Craig. |

Without DH: The Cardinals' lineup is the same as normal. The Red Sox have to give up one of their best offensive players. |

Remember, the Red Sox have been to two WS where they had to play in an NL ballpark and not have the DH, and it's been just fine.
