Verlander postseason stats (from the game logs in Baseball reference)
Against Oakland (5 starts): 4-0, 36.1IP, 49K, 8BB, 20-128 (.156), 1.24 ERA, 0.771 WHIP, 1.462 Win Probability Added

Against Everyone Else (9 starts): 3-4, 49IP, 49K, 20BB, 47-191 (.246), 5.14 ERA, 1.367 WHIP, -0.248 Win Probability Added

Just because Verlander did so well against Oakland this year, doesn't mean that that won't carry into tonight. We'll just have to see- the result of the game should be clear very quickly, depending on whether the Sox can either get to Verlander, or work his pitch count. If they can do neither, it'll be a long night for the Red Sox, and for their fans.

EDIT: There's also a huge discrepency in slugging percentage. Aginst Oakland, he's given up 33 total bases (13 singles, 4 doubles and 3 homeruns), for a slugging percentage of .258. Against everyone else, he's given up 89 total bases (29 singles, 8 doubles, 2 triples, 8 homeruns), for a slugging percentage of .466.

In fact, I am going to try this now. I would like to see the Dodgers and the Tigers win. So if you guys are betting men, you should put money on the other teams.

Verlander's pitch count is rising. Good news.

EDIT from 17:28 Eastern: Now we're starting to hit deep fly balls. Almost there!

This ALCS is almost a mirror image of the NLCS. The Tigers' aces are pitching lights-out, yet they are STILL trailing in the series.

Verlander has to be one frustrated dude right now.

Good thing Breslow, Tazawa, and especially Uehara shut them down because the way Lackey looked being pulled from the game, he might have done some damage if they blew the game.

The pitching from these four has been tremendous and very fun to watch.

The Dodgers just got out of a bases loaded no one out jam in the first inning without a run scoring!

Even though I'd prefer the Red Sox to face the Cardinals, I'm rooting for a Dodgers win tonight...

Because that means the Saturday night game 6 will be at a reasonable time for us in the UK and not starting at 1am at the earliest!

I envy you for these two hours..Tonight's game in my small world begins 3:30am & i wouldn't describe myself as the insomniac type..Still trying to figure a way.

Give a little credit to the St. Louis Cardinals.

This is the FOURTH time they have beat Kershaw this year.

Not just Kershaw, but the Dodger defense in general. They just gave them too many outs.

There's a certain other time this series where the Tigers sent Scherzer and Verlander on back-to-back days.

I hope they both pitch, and both win.

Neither one with start game one of the WS..and we have Waino three times, Wacha twice, and Joe Kelly twice.

I rather fancy the Cards chances. Wainwright will have 8 days rest, as will Joe Kelly. Wainwright just does not lose at 6+ days rest. Don't worry about rust..not with one walk per START this year.
