BA higher than OBP??

While playing out a game earlier, I noticed this: PLayer's Avg is .500 on the season so far, but his On Base Percentage is .487? Obviously this is not possible. Is this a known bug? Or is it just calculating the stats incorrectly maybe? Anyone else seen this?

Sac flies is the answer here.

They are not considered an at-bat so don't affect your batting average but on-base percentage does factor it in so it reduces your OBP. If you've never walked or never been hit by a pitch but you have sac flies then your batting average will be higher than your on-base percentage.

Oh good call! I didn't think about sac flies or bunts. That's probably what it is. Especially this early in the season with such a small sample size. Thanks!

when you 'stretch' a hit and get thrown out at second or third, you still get a 'hit' too. *single or double depending on where you get thrown out.

sac flies don't count as an AB or a hit. so, it wouldn't be responsible for a BA>OBP situation.

It's when you get thrown out trying to stretch a hit an extra base. If the guy gets thrown out, he gets a hit (positive for his BA) but it doesn't count towards his OBP.

OBP = (Hits + Walks + Hit by Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit by Pitch + Sacrifice Flies).
