Smoothed era_stats File
Most of my play experience with OOTP has included long term sims (50-100 years) to build up a fictional league history. I noticed that my single season HR leader would usually come from around 1987-1990... and I started to wonder why. As it turns out, MLB wide HR/AB was rather high around 1987, and that gets reflected in OOTP's era_stats.txt file.
I borrowed the idea of 3 to 5 year recalcs used in historic sims (which is intended to smooth the arc of a players career), and decided to take 3, 5, and 7 year averages of the data in the era_stats file. It required a little tinkering in Excel as everything needed to be normalized to a constant basis, but sparing you those details, I really liked the results when I ran long term sims. Stats still changed as they did in real life, but the variance from year to year was never sharp. History *evolved* rather than out right changed. The attached file is the fruit of my efforts, using a 7 year average each year. Feel free to use as you see fit. It goes in the database folder, and should be renamed "era_stats.txt" |

Unfortunately the link isn't present, because I'd be very interested in this.
