How about all this news of trading the top draft picks? Pretty interesting start to the offseason...

Concern I have for Philly is that they are now hitching their future on 1) a player who couldn't win half his games for a Power 5 school, 2) a player who missed all of last season & couldn't take his team to the NCAA tourney despite having another player on campus who made the NBA, 3) a player who has played 31 out of a possible 246 in the 3 seasons since he's been drafted. And didn't finish the year despite being on a strict minutes limit.

You better invest heavily in coaching & development & the training room.

What exactly are they trying to do here? They shouldbe building their team for 2021, not 2018.
The Cavs are going no where. Its like laying siege to a castle, you have to let age wear down James.
He is a robot but it will happen sooner or later.

And so what if you draft another guard? Are you really going to pay Thomas entering his 30's 230 million over 5 years?
He is an amazing scorer but he is 5'8 and relies on athleticism. His future projections are not as a max level player.

I think Ainge is getting too smart for himself right now. Keep the pick, draft #1, let Fultz or whomever play off the bench for 24 minutes and in December off Thomas out there and see if anyone will overpay for him.
That would be the Belichick move.

Josh Jackson is an exciting prospect but some of his personal issues would put me off him.
People can and do grow out of them all the time, but the more you can eliminate as question marks the better.

Not that I think this makes the 76ers strong contenders.
I really like Embiid but there is a chance he plays less than 75 NBA games FOR HIS ENTIRE CARRER.
Simmons is intriguing but can he shoot beyond 8 feet?

I feel like the Celtics would have been better off going with the #1 pick and being patient.

Basically, I think the Celts had to choose between Thomas and Fultz. Either draft Fultz and let Thomas walk (and an awkward year with both) or they trade the pick and draft Tatum or Jackson.

I think this move makes their decision. Personally, I think I would have gone the other way. Cavs made Thomas a liability (I know he was hurt, it was probably a factor) by either screening with his guy or shooting over him from the corner. Only difference when healthy is he can score more to make it a wash against a team like the Cavs or Dubs.

I think trying to win now is OK for Boston. But I think Thomas isn't a key component. Maybe Ainge really is just reycling assets until LBJ is out of the East. This trade would further that as well.

And Russell and Mosgov are traded to the Nets for Lopez and the 27th pick.
The Lakers gave up on Russell very quickly.

I think dropping a dime on his teammates made his situation unworkable.

Howard going to the Hornets will help their defense. Don't know if it will help them in the standings.

Got to wonder what is going on in DeAndre's mind after he reniged on his Dallas deal to stay loyal to the Clipps & now he's trade bait.

Atlanta freed up a lot of salary space and is looking like a rebuild is in order. Baffling trade for Charlotte.

So the Nets shed about $2million from their cap? Not sure if it makes them much better on the court. I am going to take an interest in them. I want them to succeed!

I am surprised at what they got for Lopez whom they should have traded three seasons ago.
I still like Russell and think he was good last year after being treated like a shelter dog his first year in LA in Kobe's retirement tour/does Bryon Scott realize he is not coaching in 1981?

Mozgov gives them nothing and is a terrible contract
I have a feeling they will seek to waive him and use the stretch provision on his contract.
Or play him this next season and then do it the next year to make the payments less.
In any event, no way he plays out his contract. He will be waived and be back in Euope and collecting those pay checks for years to come

It's a free country so anyone is free to try and grab whatever leverage they can... However, this is nonsensical. The idea of a work out is for a team to be able to evaluate a player. If the Celtics were able to give that promise, then why would they need to work him out? It would only be to validate their (irresponsibly given) commitment...

So what if a team promises a knucklehead they'd draft him with their pick, then they work him out and determined that they are not all that impressed, that they rate him, say, no better than the 10th overall prospect? Then what? Renege on the promise, or make a stupid business decision so as to not go back on their word?

Maybe next time I am looking for a job, when I get calls for a job interview, I will tell them, "I will only come in for a job interview if you agree to hire me."

I read it as a move that he does not want to go to Boston.
