Help With Opener?

Hi all,

I recently picked up a 95 Satchel Paige, who I want to use both as a Middle Relief pitcher and an Opener only for my SP4. I've tried a few different settings with him, but haven't been able to figure out how to make it work. Right now his primary role is Starting Rotation and his secondary role is Opener. Doing this only allows him to be an Opener for my SP4. Setting him to a Middle Relief as his primary role and Opener as his secondary role isn't letting him open for my SP4. Does anyone know what game strategy I need to set to ensure he opens for my SP4 every time through the rotation, but also allows him to be a Middle Reliever in between?

Thanks!

I have used the Middle Relief (primary) with Opener (secondary) and had it work in one-off situations where I knew he was 100% rested. My best guess is if that isn't working for you, probably means he was too tired from his relief duties to open that day. It would just be luck of the draw which days he had pitched previously...I'm guessing it's impossible to ensure he ALWAYS opens for SP4. You probably need more than one opener.

There is a setting in global strategy ''Use Of Openers'' that you can change the slider on which effects how often they are used

That was one of the issues I ran into when trying to make him a Middle Relief pitcher as his primary role and Opener as his secondary role. I wish there was a way to cement him into the rotation and have him not be a RP the day before so he is guaranteed rested, kinda how the 2 way players get benched the day before they are supposed to start.

I'm hesitant to mess with it, as Satchel Paige is my only opener, but thanks for letting me know. Once I either clinch the playoffs or get eliminated from making the playoffs, I will have to test that out!

I've found (thanks to someone on the forums; sorry that I can't remember who right now) that you need a starting pitcher to be assigned the follower role (you can do this under player strategy) for this to work the way you want it to. Then if you have him set to Middle Relief as primary role & Opener as secondary all should be good
