Roberts gave last night's game away by over-managing his pitching staff. Hill was good to go at least 5, probably into the 6th, and Roberts most-likely under-utilized Maeda, Watson, and Morrow. Nobody has a crystal ball, but who would you rather have - Hill (who had shown thru 4 innings that he was solid) pitching in the 5th & 6th innings and your top relievers in to get the last 9 or so outs, or Stripling, Fields, and McCarthy throwing batting practice in the late-innings? I don't discount analytics, but sometimes common sense needs to factor in, too, and in this case Roberts blew it...

The series isn't at all over for the Boys in Blue, but the difference between having beaten both of Houston's aces and being up 2-0, versus being tied 1-1 and the Astros' offense feeling rejuvenated and heading home, is huge (obviously) - and that's mostly on Roberts.

Don't forget the massive difference in Astros run production at home versus on the road. The Dodgers could be in serious trouble.

Hill definitely had at least another inning in him, even though he wasn't as sharp as he could have been. That decision forced Jensen into a 6 out save situation, which, in hindsight, was no good.

It's going to be a tight series, especially if we have to face Verlander again. And Keuchel was no picnic either. Still, my money's on Blue.

Absolutely true. All the more reason that Wednesday's give-away was potentially crippling.

That said, in the Dodgers' favor is Darvish & Wood are - depending up on one's definition - second-tier aces, whereas the Astros' #3 & 4 pitchers (McCullers & Morton) are merely decent. (And in game five, Kershaw has the edge against Keuchel.)

Also in LA's favor is that although much has been made about how the Dodgers' vaunted bullpen was finally breached, the reality is that most of the damage was done against guys who shouldn't have been in the game in the first place. IOW, I'll still take the Dodgers' top five relievers over Houston's 'pen.

Strangely, the Dodgers' offense has been both quiet (11 hits over two games) and explosive (6 of those hits left the yard). That trend is unlikely to continue in that either their bats will come alive as they did against a couple of pretty high-level Cub starters, or those few hits might turn into singles. Neither would surprise.

Game 3 is crucial (duh), as - in addition to Houston's bigtime home-field advantage - they should have serious momentum after LA's gift in game two...

I'm hoping Roberts learned a lesson, but I doubt it...

Exactly. Pulling Hill early, combined with not going with Maeda a bit longer, yanking Watson after just one pitch, and using Stripling to start the 7th rather than going straight to Morrow (in what should've been the 8th if Hill, Maeda, and Watson were used properly)... it all added up to having to use Fields & McCarthy to toss batting practice in extras...

Hope you're right, but my money is staying in my pocket, as I'm not sure the Dodgers' talent can yet again bail out Roberts' overly-analytics-based moves...

Had to get up early today and yesterday and didn't see Game 2 until basically right now. So that one drained me good already, and now it's Game 3, and oh dear it's also 2am... FML.

Being born into the wrong hemisphere sucks.

The guy with the cast did not throw a strike. I have this feeling creeping up of inescapable, unavoidable doom.

I'm so calm and a real pleasure to be around.

So Wood is on track for a no-hitter, gives up one hit being a home run and leaves the game, and then the Dodgers come back and win it in the 9th lol.

So the MVP for LA tonight is the Astros manager. Giles is a dumpster fire right now and I wouldn't trust him to pitch in my church league softball game at this point.

The Dodgers' lineup of punchable faces rattling off five in the ninth makes me that much more miserable...

I hate all their batters. All of them. Except for Turner (his poor soul scorched by years in agony in Flushing), Forsythe (his poor soul scorched by years in agony in San Diego and Tampa Bay), and Barnes (who?).

Ugh.

If there's ever been a completely bananas, weird-ass game, it's this one...

That game was a travesty. Double digit runs by both of the supposed two best teams in the league. Ridiculous.
