champions league
semifinals are set
either Tottenham or Ajax will be in the final, facing off either Liverpool or Barcelona should be plenty of scoring in the coming matches, none of these teams are likely to park the bus Moanrinho style |

I really thought I understood the Laws of the Game. Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for Spurs and hope they can do the same to City on Saturday, but I don't understand how VAR upholds a goal off an elbow and disallows a backpass for offsides.

The problem with offside as you quoted is that Eriksen played a poor backpass off of Bernardo Silva. Silva had no intent on playing the ball to Aguero. If Silva had shot, the ball deflected off Vertonghen and fell to Aguero in his position, he would be ruled offside because Silva was playing the ball, despite the deflection. How does the deflection suddenly consist of "playing the ball" per Law 11?

this CL season has had some amazing upsets/great games. United over PSG, Ajax over Real, Pool over Barca, and now Spurs over Ajax

IIRC, Klopp has lost 6 of the 7 Cup finals that he has been involved in as a manager. Surely, Liverpool's 26 point advantage in the English Premier League standings over Tottenham will be enough to overcome this deficiency today. Were the favorites to fail today in the finale against Spurs, it would extend to seven consecutive seasons Liverpool's run without a single trophy in any competition.

Pretty boring first half. It would be a shame if a game of this significance was decided by a penalty on a handball that didn't seem clear cut.

Surprisingly flat game for much of it. It felt like the kind of game where the announcers say "this game needs a goal", but there already was one! Tottenham never really was able to get a sense of urgency and Pool didn't have to because they already had the goal. A bit of a letdown over all. Luckily we recorded it so we could watch it with coffee and breakfast and speed through some of the downtime.
