Jim Mahoney

Anything of Jim Mahoney with the White Sox in the 1970s? Also, what "position" was he - 1st, 3rd, etc.? The usual suspects (Retrosheet, BaseballCube) are silent on this.

Thanks!

Old Time White Sox Coaches

Looking for something of Mule Haas (as a coach, not player), Bing Miller (other than his 1961 Fleer card) and Jimmy Austin - there's a nice picture that pops up immediately in a Google search but for technical reasons which elude me the quality implodes when I go to copy it.

Mule Haas

Here's a photo of Mule Haas giving some kind of coaching sign with the White Sox in 1942. The photo is from the Chicago Tribune of April 17, 1942.

Bing Miller

Bing Miller is shown with the White Sox at the point when he is released from the team after serving as their coach for eight consecutive years. The photo is from the South Bend (IN) Tribune of October 26, 1949.

Jimmy Austin

The photo is from a website called freewebs.com. The White Sox uniform was worn in 1933, 1934, and 1935 -- all years when Austin was a coach on that team.

Jim Mahoney

Couldn't find a good photo of Mahoney in a Chicago White Sox uniform, but attached is a decent drawing of him. It's from the Hackensack (NJ) Record of Sept. 12, 1972. For a tiny head shot photo of him, there's always the 1974 Topps baseball card #221, which is the Chuck Tanner manager card with his four White Sox coaches, including Mahoney, depicted on it.

There were 3 pics of Mahoney posted by Topps Vault. These 2 here, plus AM904 which is not watermarked.

Andy Gilbert - 1975 Giants

Anything of the Giants' bench coach from 1975?

Also, if anyone could help me with the question it would be appreciated - who coached at 1st for the Giants that year? Gilbert was on the bench, Virgil in the pen, McMahon with the Pitchers and Amalfitano at 3rd. I almost wonder if manager Westrum might have done double duty, since he was their 1st base coach in previous seasons. Any information is appreciated - thanks!

Here are a couple of team photos, the first from 1974 and then two versions of his 1975 team pic (neither of which are great scans).

Any photos of Bill Clymer & Grover Land in Cincy Uni's? The were coaches for the REDS in 1925.

Al Zarilla 1971 Senators

Does anyone have a B&W or color image of Al Zarilla, who was a coach with the 1971 Senators? Have a fuzzy image from the team photo, but nothing individual.

Thank you anyone for trying.

The only "coach" image I have for Zarilla is the one you reference, a Don Wingfield team photo. Although the team assigned uniform number 45 to him, in conversations I had with Gary Gillette and the late David Vincent about Zarilla's tenure, we all agreed that he was essentially a scout, the role for which he was hired following the 1970 season. He had no in-game duties or roles, rather his coaching position was a gimmick, used by Senators manager and former teammate Ted Williams, to give Zarilla the extra major league service time he needed to increase his pension. He does not appear in any of our coaching databases.

Zarilla's position was explained in the 24-Oct-1970 issue of The Sporting News:

Ex-major leaguer Al Zarilla reportedly will join the Senators' coaching staff under Ted Williams next year. Williams is said to have promised the job to his former Red Sox teammate, who needs only a few months to be eligible for the pension.

The database I was drawing from is from the MacMillan Baseball Encyclopedia. Thanks for the context!

Larry Herndon - Tigers Coach

Looking for something of Herndon during his time as the Tigers' hitting coach in the 1990s - hopefully something not stamped by the good folks at Getty.
